$400 paperweight.. any new deals in local stores?

First my son's 360 bricked back int the spring, now mine. Very gently used and meticulously cared for.. my 360 froze up a couple times this week and just in time for Halo3 it won't come back to life.

I'm contemplating the Elite if I can find a good deal or coupon deal in a local store. CC, BB, Wallyworld, Costco, etc.

Any new promos popping up ?

Why not take advantage of Microsoft 3 year warranty, and get it repaired for free?

I'am.. in fact i had a ref# from MS within 30 minutes of the untimely death.

I'm just contemplating the upgrade and sell the refurb route..

Open a red card at Target and get 10% off any purchase. Get the elite there

Excellent! That's what I'm looking for.. hmm.. red card..? CC of sorts I presume?

yeah, the Target in house credit card. Like Sears, Target always has a "10% your purchase if you open a new credit card" deal going on. Standard credit warnings apply of course.

Kmart had a Halo Promo where if you buy any 360 console and H3 you got a $50 gift card.

Gamestop is running a good promo right now. Trade in 5 games or more and get 30% more cash per turn in ,and if you got there trade in membership card you get 40% more cash per game.

I ended up tradeing in my launch xbox 360 and 10 games I never play anymore and got the halo edition 360 for 1 dollar hehe.

Now my 360 has HDMI which is awesome btw, and i got to keep my other HD so now I have 2.

Also the new halo 360 is so much quieter then my launch box , I was quite impressed.

that target deal i think you can't use the 10% off on THAT purchase, but a future purchase, might want to check.

i also got target's 3 year warranty. it was 29.99 or something, and it'll just save me hassle if my elite bricks up.

you can use your 10% whenever you want, including day of signing up for the card. and its good for a full day of shopping so you can come back later that night and use it again if you want. unfortunately i worked there for 3 years during college.

the warranty only covers red rings, if its something else they will bill you.

Last year I got a 360 premium at Circuit City. It came with an offer of buy any game (GoW) with the system and get a free wireless controller. I saw that the receipt had the console for $350 (was $400) and the controller for $50. I also used one of those $40 off $200 coupons. A few days later I returned the controller. So I ended up with a premium for $310 plus tax. I think the $40 coupon worked because it had GoW instead of just the console which is usually excluded.

Anyway, you may be able to get a bundle and return part of it to bring down the price. Also, Costco has a new premium bundle for $400 in the store that includes an extra controller and play-n-charge kit with no games. It is the HDMI version with the BenQ DVD drive and should have the latest heatsinks. You are basically getting the charge kit for free if that means anything to you.

I think you are confusing it with the MS warranty.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Even though there are new bundle deals on the horizon, I got an Elite and a 512MB mem card at Target and used the 10% off suggestion. Gives me a month to figure out how to tell the wife I bought it before I have to pay it off. lol.

The 512mb card was $49 with Geometry wars included. not too bad I guess.

I bet Target would take a return on that memory card

I considered that.. however I can see it coming in handy. Not really $44 (w/10% off) handy.. but handy none the less.

Target's return policy is also 90 days, which is pretty cool and better than most.

How did you you do this. Gamestop only pays a fraction of what things are worth. Post a break down of what they paid for your console and games. I would be very interested in doing this myself it possible. But from my past experiences with them I don't believe its doable.

Welp, mine bricked last night. It is just out of warranty (by 2 months). I'm taking them up on their extended 3 ring warranty. If there are any problems/bullsh*t with this process I'll go for an elite. Figures I just picked up Halo 3/Strangelhold/ Bioshock on the way home from work yesterday. What a disappointment...
