Silver Surfer Brief Review - Page 3

My lil review would be...PQ=Nothing to write home about, another solid 4 star transfer. It looks great...pristine print, decent depth, but it's not gonna blow you out of the water. Visually, it has the same hot contrast look as the first film which looked great as well. I did notice the skin tones during the wedding sequence looked a little too orange for my tastes though. Grain is minimum and colors are bold and pop off the screen. Yes it does have a high AVC bitrate encode(alot of scenes hovering around 36-38 mbps) but it goes to show you that bit rates aren't everything. I have seen "low bit-rate VC-1 encodes" that look just as good and sometimes better.

AQ=Outstanding DTS core track at 1.5mbps. I am really jealous of those who have the capability of decoding these full DTS-HS Master Audio tracks cause this one should be spectacular. LFE is fantastic and the surround usage is phenomenal. My favorite scene is the Fantasticar sequence towards the end of the film...I watched it a few times. Definitely a demo piece in that scene.

Pretty decent extras and it contains an AVC encoded trailer for Die Hard 4.0 as well as The Simpsons Movie...both look spectacular in 1080p.

Peter Bracke of High-Def Digest has his review up. Check it out here.

He gave both audio and video a 4.5 out of 5.

I thought the PQ was above average. Some scenes looked a tad soft to me but other than that I actually agree with Peter Bracke. What ! did I just say that ?
