Help, Audio Sync Issue

System:
Dell Vostro dual core 2140
3Mb RAM
Nvidia 256Mb 7300GT PCI-e x16
Auzentech X-plosion 7.1

The problem I am having is in 1080p streams the audio will lose sync with the video during times of intense action on the screen. After the action is over, the audio will catch back up. The CPU usage never goes above 55%. It does not happen with 720p streams regardless of the action intensity. Is this a video card problem? Do i nned to upgrade to a 8xxx card? It happens with PDVD ultra, zoom, as well as WMPC. I am using any one of those players along with Haali splitter and the CCCP codec pack. I was hoping it was just a settings issue. I am still vey green when it comes to HTPC's. Thanks for the help.

You'll need to investigate it yourself, by eliminating as many influences as possible.

Some possibilities:

- codecs you're using, try and find replacements, maybe ones with HW acceleration if your video card has it. HD needs HW acceleration, or a fast CPU(s).

- MPEG2 SD/HD is about the easiest to playback, start with getting that to play well, should be able to without any HW acceleration. AVC/VC1 might be difficult with your CPU and no HW acceleration.

- disk i/o, unlikely to be an issue, but maybe

- background tasks, turn off/exit any not needed items in task bar

- Try playing video only, without any sound or processing

good luck,

Thanks Proto,

720P streams play fine, its only the 1080P .mkv streams I am having issues with. I dont have anything else running in the background other than the utilities that I am using for Audio/Video. Whats the best codecs to use? I am using CCCP. The video is seamless whether the audio is on or off, its just that the audio starts to lag during intense action scenes.

I know there are some issues playing back HD inside of .mkv ('20fps bug') that you might want to look into, here's a bit of info:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=10981171

Also, codec packs tend to do more harm than good, I would uninstall and only install each codec you need, start with ffdshow, since it has built in support for about 50 codecs. The flipside is that ffdshow might not get you the best performance, depends on your cpu.

AVC/h264: Mainconcept (free in sdk package, but has logo) or CoreAVC or ffdshow
MPEG2: Dscaler (+ IVTC mod if brave) or ffdshow
VC1: MS WVC1 decoder DMO, avail on doom9.org

Since its the audio having the issue I would concentrate on it. You should be able to play a SD DVD in MPC using its built in filters and/or AC3Filter. If your outputting to a AC3 receiver, you should be able to passthrough the AC3 right to your SPDIF, so no CPU involved, except for staying in sync.

As a last resort, you could look into Reclock, but it shouldn't be necessary in this case, its probably something else.

Hmmm maybe you're right. I never thought about it that way, but the video is smooth with no problems......so maybe it is my sound card having the problems. All I did was load up Power DVD Ultra, Haali splitter (with MPC, ffdshow, and Zoom), and the CCCP codec pack. I didnt do anything with AC3 filters or anything like that. Its a Auzentech X-plosion 7.1 card and I am using the optical out with the drivers that came with th card. Audio sounds great all the time except when it loses sync during 1080p .mkv files. Even when it loses sync, it still sounds good, just out of sync. Like I said, I am still trying to learn this HTPC stuff so please bare with me.
