Help pick speakers for my first setup :)

Hello,
I have just recently started looking into using a reciever + sub + speaker setup for my computer / Xbox360. This is not really currently for a HT but maybe it would be nice if I can upgrade it to become one eventually. My budget for the system is hopefully below $1000 and below $800 is a big plus.

I currently have a klipsch promedia 2.1 and I was looking for a 5.1 surround sound system but after looking through these forums I realized that with my budget, a decent 5.1 setup would be nearly impossible so I started considering some booksheves for a 2.1 setup.

So here is my current situation. I purchased a nice HK 274 receiver for 340 dollars shipped which boils down the rest of my setup to around $460-660 for speaker + subs. After looking around in the subs area I am considering the MIC H100 which I Can find for around 240 dollars shipped. That reduces my choice of speakers to be around 220-420 dollars.

The dilemma is whether to get a 5.0 speaker set or just stick with 2.0 (and if so which ones). I can get a Klipsch quintet II speaker set for that budget but I dunno if that is a good choice. If you recommend that I get a 2.0 which ones do you recommend?

Thanks for you replies and help also if you recommend other subs or receivers please advise me..

If I were you and you could only afford a little at a time, I would do 2.0. Get your front 2 speakers first, then add the sub, then add the center channel and then the surrounds. You should check into ********** & the audioadvisor.com they are having really good sales on their speaker lines.

The Rocket 450's from av123 would be a great speaker to own, I have heard it and I own it's big brother the 760's. good luck and enjoy your purchase. They are on sale for $499, that is a great price.

Performance package #2 for $600 shipped is what you want if you're looking for at least 5.1 within your budget.

So updates on those actually looking.. I am considering one of these bookcase pairs for now..

x-ls Bookshelf Loudspeaker
Paradigm mini or atom
Infinity Primus P152

Any comments? Are they not the ideal choice for mains? I can find the Primus for pretty cheap (~140). I was wondering how any of these pairs will work with my HK receiver and BIC H-100 sub that I was planning. Thanks

I'm sure the x-ls will be a better performer than the others and with the X-LS you will get beutifull wood veneered speakers vs. laminated speakers. You HK receiver & Bic sub would work fine with them, especially the sub because I read a lot of people recommending that sub for in that price range.
