RCN (News - Alert) Corporation (RCN), a provider of all-digital television, high-capacity data, and voice services to residential, business customers and service providers, has announced a multi-year contract and service launch with Mandarin Oriental, Boston.
Under the agreement, RCN's All-Digital and High Definition (HD) Cable TV service will be available in 136 guestrooms and 12 luxury suites, as well as the condominiums, apartments and retail stores located within the facility. A dedicated data network connection from RCN will also serve as the hotel's failsafe for Internet connectivity.
The hotel's guestrooms and suites have been designed with remarkable attention to detail and outstanding features, from soaking tubs and designer linens to advanced technology including in-room High Definition Televisions and 24/7 high-speed access to the Internet, explained Susanne Hatje, general manager of Mandarin Oriental, Boston.
Hotel guests can access over 80 free-to-guest channels, including HD, with additional reserved channels for Mandarin Oriental's own insertion. Using its own fiber-based network, RCN also deployed a redundant connection to re-route Internet traffic to serve as a backup during connectivity failure.
Hatje stated that they required a set of solutions that would easily integrate with their video technology partners, accommodate their own inserted channels, deliver more HD programming and insulate their guests from any Internet connectivity interruptions.
PK Ramani, RCN business services president, explained that their company is extremely pleased to bring RCN's expertise across all three business units together to provide a unique solution for the Mandarin Oriental.
RCN is expertly equipped to handle the individual requirements of hotels in their major-market footprint, and is comfortable delivering solutions across a range of content and distribution technologies, including the ability to work with service integrators, Video on-Demand (VOD) providers and third party content insertion.
According to RCN President and CEO, Peter Aquino (News - Alert), this agreement with Mandarin Oriental highlights RCN's core strength, the ability to leverage their deep metro fiber infrastructure to serve high-end telecom demand across multiple products and customer segments.
The company's strategy of diversifying RCN's asset portfolio over the past few years has positioned them extremely well to compete successfully in both good and difficult economic environments. RCN continue to see growth opportunities in all of their markets and business units, and remain focused on utilizing their broad, diverse network to deliver high quality, flexible, and cost effective solutions for their customers.http://hosted-communications.tmcnet....ury-boston.htm
