A&E

HGTV

SCIFI
TBS
Also FX & SPEED are being added to the Iowa City headend BUT WILL NOT be availble in Iowa City. (To many local IC channels)

Are those additions in Iowa City all in the Family Cable tier?

850 HDNET
851 HDNTM
880 HBOHDe
885 STZ1H
890 SHOHDe
892 TMCHD

Apparently, for HD, I don't get USA, TNT, Sci-Fi, etc. That can't be right, can it?

I don't think so...most of those are in the "premium" tiers, not family cable.

yes, but you'll need a HD box of some sort from Mediacom to see any of the HD channels except the locals, which are not scrambled.

Yup....here's hoping they add some here in the Quad Cities. I watch with my TiVo Series 3 with CableCARDS. I'd love me some SciFi HD and FX HD.

Moline had A&E on 747 but I don't see the other 2 at all.

As far as I know, today's adds were only for the Des Moines/Ames, IA market.

So does this officially make Cedar Rapids' Mediacom service the worst cable tv service in the country?

hard to believe my podunk little town has had these for a couple months before a large metropolis like Des Moines..

I'm curious what everyone is being charged for the HD converter boxes, especially Mediacom customers but also others. I would like to watch the handful of HD channels Mediacom offers, but they charge $10 per month for the HD box. From what I've read online that's more than what others around the country are charged.

The HD box is $10 plus you pay $5 more for the service I think. My daughter got a DVR box and it magically picksup the non-premium HD channels - no extra cost.

Hm. I'm apparently able to partially pick stuff up now.

Local PBS is on 102-2

HDPPV (just a logo) 104-4

TNT HD (it first came on as tbs hd?) no audio 106-4

This is with a samsung box.

Any ideas on how to tune stuff in?

FX and Speed got delayed in the Waterloo Iowa area and my Scifi HD isn't HD how awesome is that.
Oh, and Mediacom didn't know anything about Food HD

Did anyone else loose some HD channels via firewire from the STB?

I record NFL off of FOX every Sunday using CAPDVHS. Today there's nothing coming out of the box for FOX, though I tested other locals and they record just fine.

Don't know if this is a MediaCom thing or a FOX thing.

Bob help me here please.

What is "via firewire from the STB"?

What is "CAPDVHS"?

A few years back people figured out the Firewire port on many Motorola cable boxes is turned on. It basically streams a perfect copy of the data your cable box receives and displays on the TV.

The upshot is you can hook up a PC and get a nice clean High-Def recording of shows. Someone wrote a piece of software called CAPDVHS that captures the stream off the box.

I've got a firewire cable running from the cable box to a PC. I set the cable box on FOX, and schedule CAPDVHS to start capturing the data stream every Sunday. After it's done I then play back the file on the TV.

It's great to cut down on the time to watch a game. I skip commercials, half-time, and time between snaps.

so can you save these recorded programs and burn them to dvd or blu ray?

Yes, it saves a perfect copy of the MPEG2 stream coming into your STB. The only problem is, you cannot capture 5C encrypted channels (premium channels, most "cable" channels, etc). The locals are all *supposed* to be unencrypted, but I've had this issue with Mediacom as well. FOX actually captures fine for me right now, but lately here in Ames the local NBC station has been encrypted. I don't know why Mediacom is doing this.
If you do a forum search of firewire stb you'll find everything you need to know to hook it up.

I was going to call MediaCom today but then I remembered there are a few things wrong with QAM channels as well (some are muted). So I want to log it all before I call.

crud. not too long ago i had to trade my motorola in for a newer model - appears to be Pace name brand on front. probably not the same neat "hidden" surprise though eh?

thanks for the details bob.

Has anyone heard when mediacom may be adding more HD channels to the quad cities? What channels are coming next?
I got QAM working on my PC late last night, only to find several of the stations in 4x3 mode instead of 16x9. It's like they're begging me to go DISH.
