Onkyo 805 Mute Blasts

Thread Starter
When I hit the mute button on my Onkyo 805, the volume jumps to an extreme level, really extreme. I've tried to chnage the mute setting but it will not budge. It reads "+40 db" on the setup display screen for mute setting. This is really a problem. If I acidently hit the buttom while watching a movie or somethin, the volume almost gives one a heart attack, let alone possible damage to my speakers. This is a pretty new amp (8 weeks or so). Any ideas?

Strange. Try resetting your remote control as detailed on page 109 of the english manual.

Anyone find a fix to this problem by chance? Anyone I hit mute on the onkyo remote or my programmed directv remote the volume blasts and scares the crap out of me

Did Onkyo have any response on this one?

I know this isn't funny, but I'm having a hard time NOT laughing, trying to picture the scenario. Mute = Scares the crap out of me... lol

Did you check the setting in the Setup Menu?

He said it goes to +40, which is why I didn't ask that. The setup menu only allows Mute to -10, right? (which is still pretty loud). I didn't even think the display could read +40db.

Do a factory reset. I just read a note on another forum that said that fixed it. Press Standby and VCR/DVR on the unit. The display will state CLEAR.

Do a hard reset FIRST, not factory init / clear.
Only if this doesn't work, do a clear.
See my signature.

thanks gurkey.

dont know if the hard reset worked or not..

i think it was problably working last night too..

i thought i was able to set the mute level.. not the volume decrease level

i wanted it to play at -30dB when i hit mute..

i didnt realize it knocked the volume down 30dB when it hit it..

since i was only playing it at about -25dB at the time it sounded like a full mute and i didnt try setting it to -10dB since in my head that would have been quite loud for 1am..

hope that makes sense...
all works as designed. i guess.. just not as i wish..
but great amp.
audyssey is easy.
only had to take my center off full

later
