Mits HC1500 startup question

Thread Starter
Ok so i just upgraded from an Infocus X1 to a Mitsubishi HC1500 and i couldnt be more satisfied.

The only thing that bugs me is the startup sequence... I just wanna know if its normal, as the infocus did not do it.

So when i start it up, its like its starting itself, then seems to "stop" (the fans seem to stop) then it starts again and then the lamp starts up.

Is this normal behavior from this projector?

Thanks for any help!

I have an HD1000, and I think you're hearing the colourwheel spin up twice. This is probably inaccurate as I don't think it spins - stops - spins, but rather spins up to low speed, then spins up higher before the lamp strikes. This is what mine does. Other HD1000's I've seen do the same thing.

Mine does the same thing. I just got it yesterday and thought, oh great its broke! But I was watching it within a few seconds and all is well so I would say its normal.

have you guys game on it yet? I'm looking to buy either a projector or a plasma. the projector is to game and watch sports on a big screen. also, is it bright enough in a moderatly lit room? like I said, sports and lots of gaming. when I get home, I usually hit the gaming for about 3 - 4 hours depending. I mainly game on the weekends. if I do that, how long will the bulb last? I can probably leave my 24" around so I can cut down on the use of the projector, but I would love to game on it on a continous basis.

Hi deeplove,

My son games on the HD1000 on a regular basis with an XBOX360. No issues at all. The HD1000 is quite bright, and the HC1500 is reported to be even brighter.

You'll get the best results if you can direct any lighting away from the screen, and close the drapes. Direct sunlight on the screen is a deal killer.

I table mounted my HD1000 behind the couch, and use a retro-reflective screen. This helps with the ambient light rejection from the sides. It doesn't work if your ambient light is coming from behind.

The best way to extended you lamp life is to avoid short turn-on / turn-off cycles. A 3-4 hour gaming ( or sports event ) session isn't a problem. If your game is over, and there isn't anything you want to watch for half an hour, it's better to leave it on for that half hour rather than cycle the lamp.

The lamp is rated at 3000 hours in low, and 2000 hours in bright. If you used the pj 4 hours a day, every day, you'd be looking at replacing the lamp every 15 to 24 months, depending on how often you use bright mode.

Not bad. In the "Low" mode, is it very low or say if it's at night and most of the lights are out, you can still see a nicely detailed image? As for the lifecycle of the bulb, how much is it to replace and is it worth getting the projector with expectations of replacing bulbs?

Sorry to the owner of the thread about asking the questions, but I'm really interested on this model. It's on sale by my house.

Hi deeplove,

The Mits is still quite bright in low lamp mode when you set the gamma for Sports and click BrilliantColor up a few notches.

We have 40' of floor to ceiling windows in the livingroom perpendicular to the screen with no drapes. During daylight hours we use high lamp mode for sports and gaming. In the evening when using it as a TV with most of the lights on, we use low lamp / sports gamma. For lights out movie watching we use the low lamp / cinema gamma.

If you have more questions, the HD1000 Master Thread would be a better place to post, as we're taking things off topic here.

I too just upgraded from an Infocus X1 to the HC1500 and I cannot believe my eyes.

I was so happy with my X1 and the HC1500 just blows the X1 away. Amazing projector for the money - $850 bucks for me shipped.

Side question. Anyone buying the Warrantech 3 year lamp replacement warranty? They go for about 100 bucks, but I am not sure how easy it is to get a new lamp under warranty?

Not to brag, well just a little... (not the sh*t eating grin icon)

I got mine for $800 shipped (NIB, not refurbed). Projectorpeople.com has a $50 off coupon ("Save50") that I applied to my order over there. I don't know how they can sell these things for that price.

Not to Un-brag you , but I just spoke to two different people at ProjectorPeople.com and both said $850 was the best they could do including the Save50 coupon.

They said something about prices fluctuating, bla bla, no go, no cigar. So ProjectorPeople store has the same prices as other authorize dealers on the web, you just got lucky!
