Infocus IN76 1080/24p Judder!

Thread Starter
Guys I have the IN76 and when sending 1080/24p from my Playstation 3 I get severe judder and screen tearing. When I hit pause everything looks normal, but as soon as the film is playing, I'm getting those symptoms.

This does NOT happen with doing 1080/60p, only when 24p is enabled.

Firmware for IN76 is 2.8
Firmware for the PS3 is 1.93

Has no one else had this issue?

Been away for a bit, so no update on this issue? or should I place this post in an Infocus thread instead?

I asked about the same problem, I have IN76 conected to bluray player Sony BDP-S1 by HDMI, and look what Infocus support answered:

"Hello Orlando Jose,
According to your resolution problem, it seems that your Blueray player is the one not capable of outputting
The resolution you want. Our projector IN76 is about 2yrs old (works fine) and you could look around for a blueray player that
Can project the resolution output you want.
Sorry, there is noting I can do from my part.
I apologize the inconvenience this problem might of cause.

We can put pressure on the Infocus if more owners of the projector IN76 claim the same defect.

From InFocus "Native 1280 x 720 resolution" , That menas it can not handle 1080p/24 and that's your problem,.
That's like pulling a train with a motor scooter ,It can't be done .
Just select 720p or 1080i.

We want just the resolution that the projector promises in the specifications:
Video Compatibility: Full NTSC, PAL, SECAM, 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1035i, 1080i, 1080p/24, 1080p/30, 1080p/50, 1080p/60
Please read Datasheet especifications on Infocus web site. I just bought this projector due to compatibility with resolution 1080/24p, if it can not handle 1080/24p should not be in the product specification.

Clearly the tech support rep either misunderstood your problem or is just clueless. I'd try again. Verify the S1 is sending 1080p/24 by checking the source info on the IN76 (via the menu). If it is, call IF back up and tell them the problem again. Maybe you'll get someone who will open a problem ticket that will lead to an engineer looking at the problem.

I have an IN76 but do not have a 1080p/24 source yet. That will change soon since I plan on adding a Blu-ray player to my system shortly. I'd like to think that 1080p/24 will work fine. Even if it does work fine in my setup, I'm not holding my breath it will produce any truly noticeable improvements over 60Hz playback however.

Any resolution above the native display's capability will be "Reduced" no matter what you feed it so I doubt you will notice any difference at all.

I was actually referring to noticing the difference between 60Hz and 24hz playback (i.e. avoiding 3:2 pulldown), not the resolution diff.

The IN76 is most definately 1080/24p capable. If it wasn't, I wouldn't get any picture at all. There's severe judder, I'm not sure it's the PS3's doing, or the projector.

Can anyone else just test this out?

Picked up the $399 PS3(as well as 4 $99 HD-A2!). The IN76 most certainly displays 1080/24p, but there is judder. I notice a horizontal line scrolling upwards. In the source info I can clearly see it's 24hz. Come on let's get to the bottom of this!

Finally found some other IN76 users with the same issue

I've also got a PS3 connected to an IN76 via HDMI. The reason I bought the IN76 was because it accepted 1080p24 and thus should eliminate the juder produced by 3:2 pulldown of 720p60 or 1080p60

Hope someone can get to the bottom of this.

BTW: IN76 firmware 2.4 & PS3 firmware 1.93

Hopefully JeffKB will be able to provide some insight once he get his bluray player. I'll probably wait another year before getting an HD player but definitely had 1080p/24 compatibility on my list when I chose the IN76. Very interested to hear other users' experiences.

Don't wait for me, it may be another month or so before I get my blu-ray player. I'm also considering the Panny DMP-BD10A (if the price drops low enough) and that doesn't do 24 Hz unfortunately.

I still think the best thing to do is to have someone who is experiencing the problem contact InFocus again. You can even point them to this thread. InFocus is aware of the forum and if they see more than one person is having the issue, hopefully they'll investigate. Of course, in the old days their support was in-house rather than outsourced half a world away, so it may be more difficult now.

If InFocus can identify the issue, they may be do a firmware update. IMO if there is an issue they SHOULD do a firmware update, since 1080p/24 playback is much more common now and the spec sheet on the PJ states that it should support 1080p/24 playback. Of course it could take quite a while before the firmware is ready in any case...

Interesting that the problems reported so far all involve Sonys (PS3 and S1). I doubt it's specific to Sony - probably just a coincidence (that plus the fact the PS3 is probably the most owned blu-ray player). Still, it would be helpful if someone who owns something else could confirm the problem.

Are the only options 24Hz or 60Hz? Is there an option for 48 or 72?

FWIW, on my HTPC I have tried 48, 60, and 72 (on my 4805) and I cannot notice any difference in smooth playback btw any of them, so I'm not sure that this is a big deal.
