Ok so my dog ate my remote to my A20 and i dont feel like getting another one. Is there a universal remote that i can use that will do the same stuff as the original remote. I have the pio 5080 which comes with a universal remote and then i have the VSX-81TXV remote which is also a universal remote. the only thing im really concerned about is changing the sound to true hd and actually navigating the dvd menu's. it is really had to do that without a remote with the a20. anyway give me some help please. also i dont really want to drop more the $80 on a replacment if i have to.

thanks guys

I'd say go pick up a Harmony remote. I'm using one and it works great.

I would look at using an universal remote. Marantz makes a nice one. You could even program a logitech 360 to operate your A20. The Color touch logitechs are decent too

Harmony remotes are some of the best out there and they can learn almost any function.
It is a little hard to get the setup done though.

I'd check the manuals for those remotes. Try any codes they have to Toshiba DVD players and you might get one that works. If you can't find the manuals for the remotes you can usually find the info on the net with a google search.

As far as remotes goes I personally like JP1 remotes. They are pretty inexpensive and can be amazingly configurable. They also have a pretty wide variety to match your tastes. If you invest in a cable to hook them up to your computer you can configure them exactly how you want and can get them controlling pretty much any device you want. The tools aren't always the most user friendly but if you take some time to learn to use them they are very powerful. You can find more info at the site below.

I'm one of the few buyers who hated the Harmony 880 and promptly returned it (chronically buggy customization software and the fact you could not customize it from your home theater space unless you also had an internet connected PC right beside you).

Here are tons of remote control reviews: http://www.remotecentral.com/

I went with the Universal Remote URC200. It's fairly cheap, yet loaded with features. It offers plenty of flexibility and control over its customization. On the downside, I can't promise it will have a profile for your player, so you'll probably need to borrow an HD-A20 remote from someone and use the "learn" feature to teach it. (As I did. Works great.)

Remote controls are priced all over the map, and the designs are so varied that, truly, one person's delight will be the next person's poison. So decide on the features you want, do a little reading, and make a selection. You could probably pick up a $15 remote at your local electronics store and get by, but if you want something with a little more flexibility that can also consolidate several of the remotes on your coffee table into one device, be prepared to spend a little more $, time and energy.

+1 Harmony!!

I control all my AV Equipment with my mine. A little learning curve, but is really powerful and is set up the way I want it.

+1 Harmony
As mentioned the learnign curve can be steep on it but once you get it programed you might just wonder how you managed w/o it. I know I did.

In the following order, do what I did when my dog ate my Harmony 659.

1) Buy the Harmony of your choice. I got the 880.
2) Get rid of your dog.

No kidding. I now hate dogs because of this. We had just bought him the week previous, so it wasn't like I was getting rid of him after he got to love us (or us, him). This monster chewed up many things, inluding a few pair of my wife's expesive shoes. Dogs and HT do not mix. I guess it didn't help that the Harmony was shaped like a bone! Cats will actually lie down and watch a movie with us.

Another ++ for the Harmony series. There are several models to chose for all price points. I got the 680 for the Media Center App (even though the latest software "removed" the Green Button function). Once you setup the online configuration, you can set the remote up to control ALL of the functions from the original remote.

Another option is if you buy a learning remote from a B&M, see if you can "borrow" another a2 or a20 remote to "learn" the commands. I did that once on my first DVD A player I got open box from BB (back in the good old days of the 400.00 players-scored this JVC for 99.00 w/o remote-still using it ).

The remote is the same on the new A35. I have both units and control them with a MX-800.
I sent you a pm if you still need to replace the original remote. I have no use for two.

+1 more on the harmony

I got the lowlier 550 and it does everything I need. everything. Every customization (such as delays) has been built into their software.

Interesting, you say this and don't get dinged. I jokingly said "strain the stool" and Rubin killed my post and dinged me 3 points. These mods are becoming absurd and certainly aren't applying their dinging privileges uniformly or fairly. How sad. Can they be dinged for dinging privilege abuse? Time to ask the owners. I'm sure I'll quickly be history anyway.
