Robocop (reissued) on Blu-Ray

Thread Starter
The reissued Robocop is supposed to be released on Tuesday, October 9th.

Has anyone seen reviews?
Has anyone received a copy?

I am curious whether it is an upgrade over the initial release and whether it is worth spending $$$ on.

Thanks.

No and no.

Hmmmm, MPEG-2 @ 21MBps, 25GB, No Extras...but lossless audio...

Wish it wasn't $27+...

I am excited for this release. It's been a while since I've seen it and am looking forward to the unrated edition. Hopefully Fox doesn't screw things up!!

it looks like DTS MA on the picture, which is lossless audio. while most of us can't decode it yet it is still lossless audio.

I know, I said "...but lossless audio..." not "...no lossless audio..."

Man I hope that 21mbit MPEG2 produces no artifacts or macroblocking. That damn HD DVD spec is keeping down another Blu-ray release...

Uhh..

HD DVD has absolutely NOTHING to do with this release as it is a Fox/MGM release.

Please get your facts straight before you try to bash/flame/fanboi again.
I wonder why hidefdigest has it listed as AVC MPEG4.

They re-did the audio and the cover. Why didn't they go all the way?

I know.. I was tired about reading how Troy: Director's Cut perceived softness/macroblocking was because it was encoded in mind for HD DVD. Everyone says how F4:RoSS was so much sharper and its a Fox title. Now Fox puts out a movie that has specs that aren't maximizing Blu-ray's bandwidth advantage, yet I doubt we will see any complaints from the same people.

that made me LOL!!! it almost sounds like 'Damn white man is keeping down another brother'

Sweet FOX added a price premium because they comressed the audio.
I'm not complaining abouth the audio(not a lossess vs. uncompressed issue)

But how do they decide that price is fair?
Don't they just charge 39.99 MSRP for all Blu-ray titles?
Fox is truly insane for charging us $40 for hack job releases. If only Fox priced their titles the same way Warner does.....now that would have been excellent.

Or even Sony's catalog title pricing...

Sony, Warner, Paramount, Universal, Weinstein, Lionsgate, and Disney (sometimes) all charge around $30 MSRP on catalog titles. So you can get them for $20 Amazon. Only Fox sees it fit to charge $40 MSRP on catalog titles.

Wow. I preordered this puppy specs sight-unseen. Now that I've seen specs, I'm considering canceling. This smells like a double-dip in the making.

Standard DVD was v-e-r-y weak - both audio and video. So I would say this edition HAS to be improved! Hopefully the lossless audio will equal the excellent sound of the 1988 Image Laserdisc!

i have hd dvd as well as bd.
since paramount went red some titles are now 39.99.
its not just fox.
lets see players on both sides are going down in price, movies are going up.
what the matter with these studios.
do they want jp6 to get into hdm or dont they
greedy bastards.
and they wonder why people are downloading movies.

The only "red" titles priced at $39.99 are new releases - all of which contain extras - not twenty-year-old, barebones catalog releases.

Well, I have to get it since my Criterion version is not Anamorphic Widescreen. And my new Elite 950 shows it as all squeezed up. And DAMN IT ALL TO HELL I have to get the new Brazil release because the original Criterion release version is not Anamorphic Widescreen. Not to mention the Criterion version of Silence of the Lambs. What is wrong with Criterion all of a sudden?
So the new Fox version is Unrated, but drops all the special features and adds $10 to the price. Was the Sony ever available in stores? Canceling my pre-order for this right away.
How was the Sony version, picture-wise? I'd love to own this if it was good looking.

Like 'Starship Troopers' this is a must have guilty pleasure

+1

I'm the kind of sucker who'll buy this barbones release and the inevitable double-dip (just like I have on SD DVD.) I'm just happy that they're giving us the unrated cut the first time around.
For some reason I thought this new version would be AVC. What's with these mpeg-2 catalog titles? Slackers.

It's not guilty. ST and Robo are parodies of american culture. They work very well as social commentary. Not to mention they have lots of blood and bullets. Now that's how americans like there movies.(that's not a joke either, die hard is PG13.boooo)

I wonder how much bigger his gun looks in Hidef.
That thing looks like a damn railgun.

What I really want to see is that jetpack. Oh yeah.(where's the trilogy box set?)
Why mpeg-2?? BD-25 is fine on a movie this size with no extras but jesus use a newer codec already.
