Thanks for the reply Pulliamm. I'm sympathetic to the fact that "rock" means different things to different people and if the VR2 and the BP10 are sufficient for your purposes, that's cool! For my purposes, I can't imagine the VR2 will cut the mustard. Two 6.5" at a sensitivity of ~93dB (even with DCD) is going to completely max out around 105dB. There is no way that they are going to be able to play "clean at 110dB with 6dB headroom for transients" which is what I am targeting (and noted in my OP).
The more research that I perform, the more I am convinced that something like the mighty, proven, JBL 2226 15" should form the foundation of my system. Does anyone know if this woofer has made its way into any home systems with nice cabinets? I've know Pi uses this driver, but does anyone else? Line arrays are still in the running as well.
