Aerial 5 owners, input needed.

I will be purchasing a pair of Aerial 5 B's shortly for a 2 channel setup, and am curious to see what combos others are using with these speakers.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a pair of 5 B's, and I'm having trouble choosing a pre and amp. I've read alot of positive reviews on the Parasound Halo line. I'm really leaning towards an A23/P 3 combo, or perhaps JC 2 / A 21 if I can sneak the funds by my wife. Does any one have any input on Parasound gear with 5 B's, or can share their setup with these speakers?

I posted this in the 2 channel section with no responses yet, so I figured I'd hit this section up being that I'm ready to pull the trigger this week.

Thanks,
Bill

I saw your post on the 2-channel forum. Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond to it yet. I'll do so here instead.

As I am intimately familiar with all that you ask. I would not hesitate to mate the 5B with the Halo A23/P3. It will spring the 5B's into action yet is still be very delicate. This amp/pre combo actually mates very well with it's larger sibling the Model 6 as well.

To take the step up to the JC2/A21 is a HUGE step up in performance. If you have the chance to grab this combo by all means do so. It will bring you joy for years to come even if you want to upgrade your speakers at a later date.

If you want any additional feedback on any of these let me know here or just PM me.

An excellent choice!

I have the 5B's mated with a Halo C2 and Bryston 9B SST. My set up is for home theater, so it doesn't exactly address your question. However, I often listen to music in 2 channel mode and I find the sound to be outstanding.

Nice system Straw_man!

As a Bryston dealer myself, the 9B-SST is a very good amplifier as well. A bit more pricey than the Halo A23, though.

If the JC2/A21 combo is too pricey for ya. The JC2/A23 would drive the 5B's superbly as well. The biggest benefit from the A21 would be noticed with Aerials up the line more so than with the 5B's.

Thanks for the replies.

Ttowntony: I appreciate the input and thanks for the confirmation. I'm tempted to pick up the JC2/A21 combo, as we are looking to move in the Spring of '08 and will most likely have a dedicated room, so I would upgrade the speakers and it would be nice to have a pre and amp that could hang with maybe some 7 B's etc...

Straw_man:

Actually, it does answer something that's been on my mind. There was some thought about picking up a C2, as this will be in my living room and not in a dedicated room. I watch movies here and there (20%), but for the amount of time that I do, I was thinking 2 channel would be enough. Hmmmmm, decisions.

What are you running for a center channel, CC3?

Thanks!

Ah, now we know your desires. Make it easy on yourself and look at the NEW Halo P7. It's a 7.1 preamplifier as well as a 2-channel pre-amp. Very cool indeed.

Bill,

Yes I have the CC3B. My setup is in my family room and I find that I haven't utilized the center much; mainly because I am primarily listening to music, or just watching TV programs where a phantom center seems to work well.

This might change when I get around to installing some rear speakers.
