Urga, Pirates IV looks like some great PQ from your images, but I had heard it wasn't up to par with the first 3. How would you say it ranks?

Hello ,

I enjoyed this part even above this is not the best, the image and Colorimetry are top ... cool.gif

In the first five "Pirates IV" screenshots "reds" and greyscale are amazing......

The others are not as impressive just because the "scene photography, scenery lightning is diferent along they make the filming"

On ' Pirates IV ' this is by far the best Colorimetry of the four components ...

Each day im more convinced that Pioneer Plasmas make picture quality even better than original shooting biggrin.gif

Urga, can you post 2-3 identical screenshots with LX55 and S790 for a comparison between two players?

This may not be the proper thread for this question but I thought I would give it a shot. Since everyone in this thread owns different models of the great Pioneer series Plasmas, I am seeking some advice.

I have the opportunity to buy a brand new in the box Pioneer Elite Kuro 151FD for $2,500 no tax. There is no warranty from the seller as its just an individual, not a dealer that I know of. Is there too much risk involved or is this tv that amazing that this is a very rare opportunity not to pass up. Please help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Or else..... Someone else will get it. Lol.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been doing alot of research lately and I'm really starting to lean towards the Kuro 151. Some people have mentioned that I should wait for the VT60 or ZT60. It's hard to risk not getting a tv this rare for something that may or may not be as good. However, the warranty part of it in case something were to happen, with a new tv is nice.

Which TV do you own? Also, one thing I like about LCD and LED's are the de-judder processing they have. I am one of the few videophiles out here, that actually prefers the "soap opera effect" Does the 151FD handle judder well and does it have any kind of soap opera effect that can be enabled? I'm also a huuuge gamer. Will gaming on this TV be an issue? Thanks

^^^^

I had the same value prop from elsewhere. I decided to pass --- imagine hooking up the display and discovering it has issues--and you have no recourse. $3500 for a replacement panel. Can you afford to gamble $2500? I can and still passed because I can't afford to feel like a sucker and I can't afford to feel sad.

Time to let the Kuros die a dignified death. 4-5 year old display in a box for $2500?

Damn. You make great points and you sound like my wife. Lol. J/K

I know this would be a pretty big gample, I realize that. I was curious if this tv is just that good for it to be worth the gamble. The gentleman told me I could buy Paypals protection plan in case it either shows up damaged or is not as described by the seller. At least that would help if it's damaged in transit or isn't actually new and is used.

Does squaretrade allow warranties for items bought from another individual?
^^^

I got this straight from Pioneer---they do not/will not warranty the product. SquareTrade and mack only extend manufacturers warranty. They do not cover products with no warranty unless bought through eBay where they will extend buyers protection. But it all has limits and caveats. Kuro is seductive but fraught with risk.

htwaits had the best advice -- wait for a low hour used one that you know is working. NIB doesn't mean no problems. Visit owners threads....plenty of Kuro problems to scare one off from a one off.

PS - I am your wife. You don't recognize my special brand of preachiness? smile.gif

I am still thinking about pulling the trigger on a used 101. The fellow has yet to sell it and has come down to 1,600 but again a huge risk without being able to view first.
I purchased my 151 used with under 3k hours on it for 1,900 but was able to view it first.
I had honestly been looking for this TV for the last 2 years and a couple surfaced in my city but shortly after visiting them I quickly found defects that the seller was obviously trying to hide such as stuck pixels or physical damage to the unit itself. So in conclusion “buyers beware” because as we all know any type of electronics is prone to defects and it is probably one of the major reason anyone is willing to part with a 9g kuro considering noting is yet on the market to replace it.

I just picked up a used 101 about a month ago for $1250 and it is in excellent shape. I had to drive 2.5 hours to get it but it was worth it. I already had a 500m but it was a good price so I jumped. The guy sent me numerous videos showing me the screen and different types of content and we talked via email and phone for a week before I got it. I felt pretty comfortable with it. He also said if I noticed any issues we could work out a return, but it was as advertised. The weekend I got it set up, Chad B was passing through town and I had him calibrate it.It looks stellar as expected. So you definitely have to be cautious and go with your gut. Plus at the price I paid I am not worried about not having a warranty. It had about 1500 hours at the time of purchase.
