It may not be observable to the untrained eye. But thinking back now to the shootoutvideos i remember something that the Kuro was still the better colour in comparison.

D-Nice had it on paper or something i can't remember exactly but the other calibrators mentioned it briefly also. But didn't show the actual results wink.gif

Didn't the non Kuro panels have a tint in the greyscale also... Whilst the Kuro was ruler

Hi Urga!

Why is the colour of the man´s face and hat on the left yelloish.

All the other colours and parts of the Picture look great on the ST60, but this yellow face and the hat is the (only) big difference.

What could be the reason for that?

Out of the box, European (possibly North American too?) Panasonic plasmas oversaturate green and undersaturate red by a considerable amount, and also shift red hue towards yellow. It's most noticeable on skin tones.

You can correct it using the CMS. Here's what AVForums.com suggest for the UK/European ST60, based on their test sample:
Code:
Red: Hue -17, Saturation 19, Luminance 2
Green: Hue -12, Saturation -43, Luminance 1
Blue: Hue 0, Saturation 0, Luminance 1

Hi Urga, I have an important update on the setting.

I also use a S790 with Pioneer Kuro. I have two Kuro, KRP-500A and LX-508D.

For several days I am using Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark 2nd Edition to calibrate my displays.

I started to set with RGB DC 36-bit and Direct on S790.
This Blu-ray has some very effective patterns for Clipping and I noticed with surprise White and RGB Clipping, despite departed with default values on the display.
While changing the display settings for contrast, brightness and color, Clipping did not go away.

Only by reducing the brightness of the S790 to - 4, Clipping disappears and reappears relentless at - 3.
The same result on both KRP that of LX-508D.

Then I tried S790 on Panasonic 50VT30 that has no DC 36-bit: no clipping with Direct, set to default values.

So I think that to use without Clipping S790 + display capable of DC 36-bit, it is necessary to reduce the brightness of the S790 to - 4.

I now use the Custom, with Brightness - 4, Super Resolution + 1, Smoothing + 1.
I would like to know your opinion and of course the opinion of all Forumer who have S790 + display with DC 36-bit.

This is normal, the S790 36-bit RGB + DC is RGB 0-255 so the track flashes well above 235 ... wink.gif

OK, but if the brightness of S790 is 0, the result is this:

If instead the brightness of S790 is - 4, the risult is this:

It's very old news that Kuro's have a voltage issue.

Every one does that.

On the YouTube ( 2009 HDTV Shootout - Kevin Miller presentation, PART 4).

D-NICE right at the start in the first minute or so explains this... And how with most blu-ray players reducing the contrast by even just one click... You see whiter than white... The whole thing.

Certainly worked for me a couple of years ago when i reduced contrast control on my old Denon 2500BT by one, or was it two. But everything on the pattern came perfectly into view when i did just like he said.

When i get an Oppo in a few weeks that i have ordered it will be interesting to see what's what. But it is easy to fix as pointed out on the YouTube video i mentioned
post #6040 of 7278
Thank you Stu03, I did not know the Kuro's voltage issue.

Urga
I think that the S790 RGB 36-bit + DC is RGB 16-235, in fact with RGB on S790 if you set Kuro input HDMI on Color 4 (RGB 0-255), you see a bad screen. For good screen, you must set on Auto or Color 3 (RGB 16-235).

With some plans with faking that not render HD, the entire image is good on my Kuro, I have already seen worse ...
Score: 7/10 ... cool.gif

On a 50" panel for critical viewing like BD's Broadcast HDand games i sit five/six ft and sometimes a bit less for video games. I never sit further than 7ft for any HD as at 50" it's a bit pointless. If I wasn't a Pioneer admirer, the panel structure look is what would put me off them to be frank with Panasonic. But i suppose if you sit farther back it wouldn't be such an issue. Don't know if it's any different with the zt? as i haven't seen one properly yet.

Hopefully see one at a Panasonic store or dealer soon enough though.

^^

In regard to my above post a few weeks back i did at last get to spend some time with the new Panasonic vt, but next to a lx5090 with a friend, it's a few hundred miles away and i am tired now. Like i did last year who's friend owns a shop. The LX5090 i'm sorry, is a much better tv in many ways. Side by side i thought it would have been closer but it just isn't I'm afraid. The Pioneer isn't perfect, but hype is a terrible thing. Both were playing through an Oppo 95. It's clearly not just skin tones the Pioneer excels at in comparison. The only thing i can't comment on is black level because there were other people in the room at the guys house and the lights were on and needed to stay on. From one foot and all the way back the Pioneer is just a better screen with HD. And much better with SD.

^That's hard to believe, since I'm having the opposite experience with a ZT60 versus 111FD. wink.gif Well, the differences just aren't night and day actually, aside from the increased size that makes for a more enveloping viewing experience. *shrug*

I didn't know you picked up a ZT60 Vinnie. Did you get a 60 or 65 inch? How do you compare them head to head?
Yessir, 65-incher. It's not a truly fair comparison (the Kuro is calibrated, though somewhere between 1000 to 2000 hours ago). I didn't do any proper ZT60 calibration, just entered the CNET settings. The ZT60 has the first image I've seen that captures the depth that first enamored me upon originally grabbing the 111FD.

The new panasonics are very good TV's. I got to see a VT60 awhile back at bestbuy and thought i could live with it if something happened to my kuro. But i only viewed it for a little bit and didn't do any critical viewing. And most importantly i would have to see it side by side with my kuro. I don't know if my opinion would change if i got the chance to see it more carefully.

But for sure they aren't any "kuro killers" or "beyond reference". No way. Sometimes when watching my 151 it's hard to believe it's 2007 technology.

"Beyond reference" is just marketing jibber jabber.

500M ?
Well definitely less than 10hrs old. A guy had it in a room never used because the 500m was too small and wished he had bought a 600m instead. But it's been on a wall since day one and has just under a year left in warranty which i am hopefully going to extend somehow with another warranty company before the pio warranty expires

That's it. That doesn't sound like you were that impressed with the VT. I don't believe any of today's set really surpass the Kuro in PQ, some might equal it or come close, although the Samsung F8500 probably beats the Kuro in brightness and clarity.
