Ok. Not to get everyones hopes up. But I wanted to see if anyone else had heard any other rumors about the release of this album for SACD.

In November U2's Joshua Tree 20th Anniversary re-issue is to be released. Apparently there will be something like three different packages. In the UK, the CD will be a hybrid SACD, as mentioned in this post on SA-CD.net.

The release date was pushed out to November, but I have seen this rumor pop up now and again. Anyone else know anymore? Or will it just become more cruel wisps of vaporware

that's awesome, hopefully not just a rumor. Would love to get Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby on SACD someday. Found this bit of random internet rumor:

Basically what the OP reported, but now we know what magic date to wait for. It doesn't mention SACD specifically, but can't imagine they wouldn't release SACD for such a big anniversary album (actually I can).

Also tried to find out info on Interference.com but now you have to pay to use their forums so forget that. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Ok, so I'm completely obssessed with this Joshua Tree rumor now (it is, after all, my #1 hoped for MC SACD release).

Sounds pretty official actually. Disturbing that several of these articles do not mention SACD at all!! Yikes, that would be depressing.

Also, I'm curious what this "super jewel case" is. Hopefully it is a jewel case... really hate those cheap digipaks.

yea, I'm hoping 'super jewel case' will mean SACD super jewel case.


(Pet peeve: seeing a super jewel case at the used record store only to find out it is a regular CD).

Heard the rumor on a classic rock radio station this morning on the way into work. Please, please , please let it be MC true. I don't care what kind of case it comes in--- just so it is a well done MC disc.

I would love a hi-rez mc version of this, more than any other album. I think Edge's guitar work/delay stuff would work extremely well, and the songs are some of the greatest ever. This happens to be a very important album to me personally, also, having come out at a very difficult time in my life.

I also hope there is a MC mix included with the new Joshua Tree release, but its not looking like it will happen at this point. HMV lists the following for what appears to be the most deluxe version (2CD + 1DVD). Oh well, cant wait to see the 4th of July Paris 87 show in DVD quality!

Because none of the info coming out about the anniversary edition makes any mention of MC. Alot of u2 fan sites are carrying info now. Could still happen, noone has said definitively one way or the other.

Amazon shows Nov 20 release date for 2cd and 2cd+dvd versions. But according to amazon.co.uk, release will be on Dec 3, 2007. Shows a price now as well, 23.99 pounds, and it can be preordered. Unfortunately, no info regarding SACD or not.

It's still possible that the UK release will feature SACDs instead of just regular CDs. Like with Depeche Mode. At least we won't have to wait that long to find out for sure.

Does anyone know if the B-Side/Rarities disc is also remastered? Most if not all of these songs were released years ago on the Best of 1980-1990 disc. There are a few gems that are on there that I would love to hear remastered but I cannot find anywhere that says that this disc is remastered as well. Has anyone picked up the Deluxe (2 disc) Edition and can verify if the B-sides are just a reprint or if they are remsatered as well?

I picked up the Deluxe version that has the bonus cd with b-sides as well as the live Paris DVD. The b-sides disc is indeed remastered as well. It really makes me sad that they didnt put a hi-res disc in this thing for how much it costs (50 bucks). But for a bit of good news, the remastering was done about as well as can be hoped. The level meters on my CD player very rarely go into the red with this remastered set. The band said they wanted to make sure the remaster was done right before putting it out, and it looks like they lived up to their word. I dont detect much compression or loudness having been applied to the tracks at all. So all in all Im fairly happy, it does sound a fair bit better than the previous versions of the Joshua Tree album and b-sides available on CD. I have the original cd singles from this period, so those are the b-sides im comparing to. I cant say how they compare to the b-sides on the Best of 1980, but I believe those were remastered as well from my memory.

Also, the quality of the Joshua Tree Paris DVD is really nice. The sound is LPCM, and not up to Rattle and Hum standards, but still quite a good listen on my HK / Ascends. And the picture quality is really good.

Any definitive word on whether or not UK version is SACD or not? Judging from the UK amazon site's reviews that never mention SACD hybrid or not, I'm guessing that sadly, the SACD rumor was just that.
