Orb Audio Mod2 vs. SVS SBS-01

So i'm debating between these two systems. Pricewise the SVS is less expensive. Both are 7.1 setups. SVS seems to always have good ratings on their subwoofers.

This will be going in my basement Home theatre setup. These speakers will be mated to a Yamaha HTR 6090 Receiver.

If you own either one of these systems, please chime in with your opinion. Looking for long term reliability, and quality sound.

Thanks

I don't own either but if looks/style isn't a consideration (I doubt it is if it's going in your basement) it's no-contest--get the SVS package.

From the specs, the SVS bookshelf speakers will play lower--down to 70hz--allowing for a more seamless integration with the subwoofer.

Plus the larger drivers on the SVS speakers should allow them to play at higher volumes before distortion sets in.

The SVS sub also looks to be much more substantial.

yea, initially i was drawn to the orbs, due to their design. but lately, its becoming less of an issue. The SVS still are small enough to mount, and not distracting.

Does anyone have any pics of this system wall mounted?

I have had an opportunity to listen to both the Orbs and SBS systems.

While I liked both systems I eventually went with the Orbs and never looked back (wound up picking up the Mod 4 package instead of the Mod 2). IMHO the Orbs sound great and they are sharp looking speakers.

What was your deciding factor for the orbs? What size room do you have them in? What receiver are they hooked up to? How loud have you had them? Did you go with Orb's Sub, or do you have a different brand and size?

in my signature there is a link to my HT. I have the SCS's and instead of a wall mount, I made a small shelf for each of them, and the shelf is mounted to the wall. My entire back wall is black velvet, and the speakers dissapear during a lights out movie. I think img 1082 has a decent shot of them.

Nice setup. Something i'll have to consider.
By the way, What kind of setup is your PJ? Screen Size? Throw?

My proj is an Epson HC1080 and the screen is a DIY laminiate screen at 110". Throw is around 11 feet.
Loving my SCS-01's, they have made me really happy. Would like to upgrade to the MTS, just for fun, but will spend the money else where. I really don't have any desires that need to be filled by the speakers, they have been awesome.
