I have ordered the following:
-Samsung 5271 LCD Tv
-Onkyo 705 receiver (and Onix ref monitor 1 speakers) 5.1 system only. I don't plan on ever doing 7.1
-Toshiba HD DVD A20
-DirecTV HD DVR
-PS3 (for blu ray capabilities)
The Onkyo has 3 switching HDMI inputs, so I will be plugging in my DVD and DirecTV into two of them, if the PS3 has HDMI then that will go as well. The HDMI out will go to the TV.
I'm confused on the HD DVD player though. It has an optical out for audio. Can I use that simultaneously with the HDMI feed into the receiver? Would I even want to? Would I get better sound via the HDMI into the receiver or with the optical? Would my receiver know to use the optical feed for sound if I switch to teh DVD player?
I guess the same goes for my DirecTV HD DVR
should I just use the HDMI inputs only?
thanks!
