The Official Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD Owner's Thread - Page 4

Joe,

I'd like you to check something please. I don't know if you have a 7.1 setup, and you may have to to be able to check this, but the Samsung 1400 has a flaw in that it flags multi-channel PCM tracks as discrete 7.1. When the Denon 4308 receives a discrete 7.1 track, it does not allow any post processing. Therefore, I am losing the back channels when playing a multi-channel PCM track from the Samsung 1400. This does NOT happen using the PS3, so I know the problem is in the player.

Please check the 95FD to see if it is doing the same thing.

Good find. I just set up my 4308 yesterday and will get the 95FD, so I'd like to know this also.

I have noticed with the 1400 it limits you to THX cinema (5.1) for some movies. I have not ran into this yet with the 95FD but will test it. Football is on today so my time will be limited...

I checked my nearest Magnolia store yesterday and they still don't have them. I also went across the street to Tweeter. No go...

No luck in Tampa, FL with Tweeter or Magnolia store today. Must be shipping from west coast will take an extra week or two. I will keep on top of this as looks like this 95FD will be best player going, though very pricey! Guess you get what you pay for most of the time. I already tried the Samsung BDP1400 and was to slow and buggy for me even with second exchanged unit.

Thanks guys for trying! Might be lucky by tomorrow !!!

Why not call the Pioneer Store in Costa Mesa and have them ship you one overnight?

Joe, thank u for your review on this unit.

I have a question. Does the 95 have an audio option allowing you to spread the center to the fronts? I listen to a 3 channel setup and i am tired of the center centric audio track. If not do u know of a player that has this function?

I haven't seen this option on the 95FD but many receiver's and pre/pro's will allow you to set a "phantom center", i.e. will steer the center channel to Left Front and Right Front so that your brain perceives the sound coming from the center channel...

Yes tony u nailed it, I am trying to get that phantom center. In addition, i just want the sound in my fronts as they are superior to the center. Anyone else?

Have you noticed any bugs with this player?
Not a single bug has crawled to the surface yet...
I just want to know why these things are showing at Magniloas in the midwest when they come into port in CA. And the Magnolia store here have not gotten any and the Pioneer store had pre-sold everyone they got in on the first shipment. Living in and around LA is normally an advantage but not this time.
Good point because they are popping up at many stores over here...

And the Magnola store that is closest to me thinks they will get them next week. And the Best Buy warehouse here for the MHT has 0 still.

I guess it is now Mission Impossible to get one by tuesday....

Does this player offer bass management for the analog outs? Also does it output 1080p/60?

It definitely outputs 1080p/60.

Unless I am missing something, I don't see any ability to do base management within the 95FD...
oh yeah, nice 1080p/60... Actually nice all resolutions...

Just for your info Pioneer is releasing a full 1.1 compliant player at CES 2008. If you can wait 3 months.
Knowing me I will sell my 95FD and get the new one anyway...

That's why I just bought the Samsung 1400 to hold me over...

I am using the new Sony VPL- VW60 "Black Pearl" (which is the 3rd pic)for all of my comparison so far. It handles 1080p/23.98 like a champ. I can also send it straight into my crystalio II and then tweak the image before sending it to the VW60 in 1080p/23.98. The Pioneer 95FD gets along with all of my other components which I do not take for granted these days. And yes I am making reference to the XA2 and A35 which are stubborn when it comes to sending 1080p/24 to some displays. In direct comparison to the 94HD the 95FD is obviously a more flexible unit with a little quicker load times. Being able to pass HBR audio directly to the receiver for decoding is a really cool feature. Especially if you purchased one of the newer ones that can decode it. The picture Q is very close. I keep going back and forth. Going straight to my pj it does look like the 95FD is just a little more sharper but their brilliant colors are nearly identical. I will say the home media gallery looks more refined on the 95FD. I have never really got into that feature before but now I am intrigued so I may just jump in!

Joe,

Maybe I missed this somewhere in the thread but is the pioneer outputting 1080p24 native from the disk if it's mastered in 1080p24? There is no 1080p60 conversion or down to 1080i30 going one first?

Thanks,
jimi

I *thought* I was pretty well versed in all this stuff, but I have to admit that I have no idea what a full 1.1 compliant player means. Can anyone give me the short version? Is this something really worth waiting for? I was going to call and order the 95 today.
