Now I see Atlona has a 4x4 switch that looks promising:
http://www.atlona.com/4x4-Atlona-HDM...3-p-17379.html

anyone have experience with the Atlona? any other ideas?

I tried a Grandbeing (Chinese) 4x4, and it didn't work
at all. I contact Atlona and they were going to give me
a slight discount, but the specs look better on the Octava
4x4:

http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20matr...tch%204x4.html

I contacted Octava, and they've tested with hdmi baluns
and ps3 and I like not having to pay return shipping
to China like my last purchase. I'm waiting to see if
anyone else can report back on the Octava 4x4 before
I jump in.

I just got a Monoprice 4x2 and was planning to integrate into my Philips Pronto-controlled setup. I'm running several different Pronto models over RF with the Philips RF to IR box doing the blasting from across the room. I got a remote to learn the 8 discrete codes, but I am not getting any switching from my programmed remote. It would seem that the differential is:

1) Bad code learns
2) Switch not catching IR output from across the room
3) Switch IR sensor sucks

1 is somewhat difficult to test. I'm planning to reconfig a remote to send IR so that I can put the remote in front of the switch and test 2, but I haven't gotten to that yet. I have some support for hypothesis 3 - the included remote is pretty flakey.

I thought I had read on AVS that some people were having problems with IR prior to purchasing, but I can't seem to find any posts like that now. I'm guessing I am running the newest version since the function of the switch itself seems to be right on in limited testing, and the LEDs are really dim. Anyone have any experience with this in a Pronto environment? Anyone with validated Pronto codes they care to share?

Thanks for reading!

Received newest version from Monoprice and seems to be working fine. Only complaint is scratches on front panel of unit. (edit - as per dcpoppy, peel of protective plastic)

Input - (A) PS3 & (B) Bell Expressvu HD PVR
Output - (A) Samsung 32 inch LCD LNA450 & (B) Hitachi PJ-TX200 Projector

Audio is passed fine to TV for both inputs while have receiver outputting audio for projector. TV & Projector each have 25ft HDMI cables

Just got mine, one output going through a 6' or so to the DLP downstairs, the other is going through:

10' cable
HDMI wall plate
15' cable
HDMI wall plate
30' cable (which goes up inside a wall to get upstairs)

then into my old Moome card in a NEC ISS in my bedroom, driving my 24" widescreen sony monitor. audio in the bedroom is speakers B on my several years old Pioneer receiver right now.

No problems, even with all that. And the 30' cable isn't even 1.3 rated, its the cheapest 30' they had on monoprice.

The multiple connections are because I'm going to build a false wall base floor moulding / cable conduit running down one wall of my living / dining room, which will have two 15' HDMI cables (the other is to deliver video from my PC in the dining room - I don't actually use it as a dining room) and 4 cat5 + a bundle more when I get around to building my cat5 console controller extensions. the monoprice dual wallplates for HDMI and keystone jacks for the rest.

There's a definately delay sometimes a few seconds when switching inputs around, but that doesn't bother me, it's not like I'm going to be toggling back and forth repeatedly.

@ Sixer6 - there is a protective film on the front panel. Peel it off and your scratches will be history.

As for my problem, I've eliminated option 2 as the source of the problem - I now have an IR blaster stuck right on the IR sensor. Also relearned the codes. Still not having any luck.

Anyone have clean codes?

In other news, I got a 1x2 Monoprice splitter today (HSP0102) and it works perfectly with the 4x2. I've got it splitting one of my outputs to a 6 foot run and a 50 foot run (plus keystones and 1 foot leads on each), both look great

When I select an input on one of the outputs it temporarily blanks out the other output. This is very annoying for the person watching the other TV. Can someone tell me if this is considered normal or perhaps there is something wrong with my unit.

Thanks

Maybe just normal, all the matrix switchers Ive tried do exactly the same thing.

Thanks! That did the trick, it can hardly be seen and I would never have known.

Thanks

Mine does the same, small inconvenience. For the price, I'm happy with the unit and it's serving my purpose.

As monoprice HDMI 4X2 Matrix switch are out of stock, I have found the exact same product here BestLink, it looks identical to the monoprice product, but ther IR remote is larger and has an ON/OFF button which the monoprice version does not. It is also a fraction cheaper .

I ordered mine a few days ago and it arrived yesterday. I can confirm it is identical to the 1st one I bought from Mono except for the remote.

How has your luck been with this> I am thinking of ordering it. Let me ask you guys a question. I see a lot of you say you are having problems. I need this switch for just a simple splitter. I will NEVER be using 2 devices at one time. Is it safe to say that I should be ok with this one? I will be hooking up a PS3, XBOX 360 and OptimumOnline cable box to it. And output it to a Epson 6100 and a Samsung 52" LCD. Let me know what you think thanx!

yes

Gefen upgraded my 4:4 matrix switcher to 1.3 and it works fine

they explained it may not work with all 1.3 features (many of which are not in widespread use anyway) but the upgraded unit now works properly with the Sony BDP-S5000ES and DVDO Edge

I got really good service from Gefen: for $25.00 they swapped me out with a new unit: the old unit was out of warranty
post #344 of 511
Yes it seems to work well, takes its time to establish a connections but it seems to get there. I have it splitting to DVI inputs (PC) and it does the job, but sometime it gets confused and takes 30-60 secs to sort it self out. On HDMI sometimes I loose sound but usualle an on/off refresh fixes that. As the remote has an on/off its not too much trouble.

I am looking for an HDMI Switch.
I see this one which is on BACKORDER:

and this one:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...1&cp_id=10110&
cs_id=1011002&p_id=4920&seq=1&format=2

and this one from bestlink:

I ordered this thing yesterday before stumbling upon this thread.

I just hope this device has all the bugs worked out with the Rev. 3.0 firmware.

Anyone have details on the RS-232 port? I'd like to control the switch that way but there is no documentation on the port or protocol to use.
There isn't any documentation on the RS-232, but there is a CD included with RS-232 control software.

I got mine last Friday and it works great. I have the following equipment connected to it.

Input 1: Sony PS3
Input 2: Samsung DTB-H260F HD Tuner
Input 3: Panasonic DMR-EZ28K DVD Recorder
Input 4: Scientific Atlanta SA8300HD DVR/Cable box

Output A: Toshiba 40RV525 40" LCD TV
Output B: Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH Receiver (outputting to a Mitsubishi HC1500 projector)

Output A is going to my family room, where the Toshiba LCD TV and SA8300HD cable box are, and output B is going to my theater where the Pioneer receiver is located.

One thing to note though. When I had the Pioneer receiver connected on output "A" and the Toshiba LCD TV on output "B", the SA8300HD cable box would not handshake. Connected this way the SA8300HD would display a "display not supported" message unless you had the cable box going to output A & B at the same time. If you had the cable box on A and any other component outputting though B the error message would appear, so the switcher worked only as a mirror and not matrix setup up this way.

I then switched the Toshiba LCD to "A" and the Pioneer receiver on "B" and now the switch works perfectly as a mirror or matrix with no problems. So if you have trouble try switching the outputs your displays are on.

I've been using it for about 5 days and haven't had a single audio or video drop out or any other issue other than the one I mentioned above, which was corrected.

One more thing. The manual mentions a FAVORITE feature on the remote control, but doesn't tell how to use it. There isn't a FAVORITE button on the remote, so I called monoprice and they confirmed that it's a feature that is not included and we can ignore the manual in regards to the FAVORITE feature.
Still figuring it out. Will post in a couple weeks. Xbox360 drops to 480p, tho. Will try switching outputs.
Since purchasing this unit I've found that it will only send video and not audio over hdmi using any of the 3 Oppo dvd players that I have.

I've run an HD Tivo S3 and a Popcorn 110 through it without a hitch to a 9G Pioneer plasma and a 2008 Panasonic plasma so the weak link seems to be the Oppo player.

I've never updated the firmware on any of my Oppos so that will be the next thing I'm going to try before purchasing another player that will play nice with this switch.

I'll post results.....

I installed the software but can't get it to run; all I get is a runtime error. Have you or anyone else had any luck with it?
I didn't need it, but I installed it for the heck of it. When I ran it it seemed to search for the RS-232 connection, but since I hadn't connected a cable I just canceled it. If you like I can connect a cable an let you know how it goes.
Which operating system are you running? I'm wondering if Vista compatibility is the problem.
I have an XP and a Vista system. I even have a real old lap top with Windows Millennium laying around in the closet. The program they use for the RS-232 is a Visual Basic 6.0 program that was compiled on 3/22/2009 and it uses a LOT components compiled in 1998. Chances are those 11 yr old componets aren't compatible with Vista. I bet they aren't even compatible with XP.
Just wondering if this will work:

InputA: PS3
InputB: BD- 35 blu-ray player
InputC: Apple Tv
InputD: Open

OutputA: Pioneer vsx-94txh 7.1 receiver
OutputB: Pioneer vsx-519h-k 7.1 receiver

I was wondering if both receivers will process 7.1 true-hd and dts-hd sound at the same time???? Has anyone done this yet.

I want to go to two different rooms that are both theater setups but was concerned about what it will pass as far as HD-audio.
what errors are you seeing from the VB app?

VB6 runs on Vista (and will even be supported on Windows). I built some simple vb6 apps to do RS232 programming for my nuvo to get up and running and it works fine.
After a lot of troubleshooting, it seems something has caused installer issues on my PC. It may have been the VB program for the matrix switch, as the issues stated around the same time, but it could be something else. Regardless, there is a permissions problem and the installer can't modify/install all the files that are needed, so that is the problem. I'm going to do clean install of the OS to fix this.

Changing topics, any idea how to monitor the serial port transmissions to figure out what commands are being sent to the switch? I really want to be able to program my Pronto Pro Base station to send the RS-232 commands. I'm sure it's a very simple bit of data that is being sent, I just don't know how to monitor/extract that info. Thanks for any suggestions.
