- My room has a main couch facing the front stage (10 feet from in room speakers), a side couch against the left wall and seating to the front right of the main couch (not up against a wall).
- My current setup is 5.1 with left surround and right surround speakers (mounted and swiveled) approximately 7 feet behind the MLP and 2 feet above ear level.
- The current surrounds are direct radiating speakers and I’m satisfied. With movie soundtracks, sound spans from front stage to back of the room, from left to right (and vice versa) and its coordinated.
- I’m totally focused on best sound for the main couch (MLP in center of couch) and am ok compromising the side couch and front right seating
In your opinion, How much gain will I realize by adding side surrounds directly adjacent to the main couch (converting to a 7.1 setup)?
Would there be any issues with the left side surround mounted on a wall 7 feet from the MLP and the right side surround mounted on the closest right side wall which is a rather large distance of 11-12 feet from the MLP? Or is the difference in distances from MLP to the two walls simply a non-issue by using Audyssey XT32 (to set distance levels) and calibrating with trim levels to ensure 75db with AVR’s pink noise for each speaker?
Also concerned about the right side surround speaker’s ability at approx. 12 feet from MLP, playing at reference level without distortion. I’m thinking either Inroom or Onwall Bronze LCRs, however, any thoughts on playing at reference level for movies at this distance for a side surround such as the Bronze LCR?
I’ve not used dipoles before in my room and I’m of the belief that dipoles will not work due to the somewhat large size and very unsymmetrical shape of my room. In addition, in-walls and in-ceilings are not in play. My room is a place where sound goes to die (and it’s well treated), however, it’s the only room I got. Thanks for any feedback.
