I'm building my own ticket booth! The websites gave too many dimensions, I thought I could build it myself - lol.

Supplies from HD so far cost $60 (1x8s, 1x4s, Plywood). I'm going plexi glass shopping today.

Unfortunately, I have no single or double sided posters around, so I'm using wrapping paper to test it out, and not very well either - HAHAHA.

I took 2 of the T8 bulbs out, there are 6 in there! It's advertised as only 4. The dispersion still seems even, and it's bright as a mofo. Good with other lights on, or off.







View from the kitchen. The cabinetry isn't centered because I have other projects going on to the left of it, so I centered the poster above the cabinetry. That's the only thing I don't like about my install so far, everything else looks good.

Thanks! I actually installed it twice. I had it in the hallway near one of the theater rooms and it appeared too bright (and washed out the sconces). I can't appropriately judge it's brightness without a poster in it.

Anyway, you can always find space right? I would even put this thing upstairs! It looks that awesome. It comes with "Now showing" and "Coming soon". So even if you're not done with your build (like me, haha) - you can always just make it say coming soon. It's really an excellent piece, although...I'm pretty sure I could have built this myself too.

I think I might open up a shop in case I can build this Ticket Booth like the replicas we see online. I will make it modular so I can ship it out to anyone who wants one. My prices should beat the retailers pretty easily. xD. This poster sign is just T8 flourescents with diffuser panels. There are threads in this forum on people making their own too, but this definitely has some details that would have taken me longer to do.

This one is built in America and weighs like 80 lbs!

Few days off work? HAH! Be a weekend warrior. Hard to show progress getting about 8 hours in a week, 2 of that time is hitting Home Depot for hardware - haha.

I think I broke my knees yesterday bringing 1000 lbs of "something" into the basement. We'll see how that turns out.

I spoke a lot with Neurorad (forum member) and ended up buying THESE which arrived today:

One is assembled.

MA Slim5-14U rack with 1U Cyberpower UPS and 2U Coolerguys 4 fans.

I have questions on the exhaust/intake of the fans based on my installation location, so I'm waiting to mount these and purchase the custom faceplates to install.

I calculated my components for each rack (+1U/2U power supply, +2U fan assembly), but did not account for both an intake and exhaust.

2 questions.

1) The top of the MA rack (pictured below) has knock-outs for fans on the BACK top (which makes sense). If I mount the fans on TOP of the rack (and not inside), they won't take up any U-space (I believe) and it will work. is there any detriment to doing that? I think and hope MA designed the rack for that, otherwise we'd lose U-spaces.


2) I can frame the sides in with drywall, but I wasn't sure about the rear of the rack. Even if I frame/drywall the whole rack (except the exhaust) - it's ending up in the closet. As we previously spoke about, I think we'd need to vent the closet into another open area after that? Under the stairs closet below:


Thanks a lot for the help! By the way I normally make financial mistakes along the way, but get it right in the end, at the expense of spending time researching (lol). Whether or not I am happy with the final product is sometimes inconsequential, because I move onto the next project. I sometimes get in the mode of just wanting to finish the bit of project I'm on just to get to the next part because I feel like I'm moving slowly. I definitely make mistakes but I think I can use everything I have if the fans mount on top and take up no U.

Hah! I think I got it.

Middle Atlantic sells a top fan kit:


It looks like it sits in the 1U at the top of the rack (behind the trim), that is not part of the "usable U" space of the rack. Excellent!

The fan assembly includes a thermostat. It's a cooler guys assembly from amazon, it was about $100 IIRC. It takes up 2U.

After speaking to a friend, he indicated he thought the Slim5 was meant to be framed in the front and let it be open elsewhere to let "convection" work (i.e. if it was an unfinished space). he also recommended I rip the carpet out of the closet, and vent it out of the closet in a couple different fashions. He said (and I've read the same) that middle atlantic's fan assemblies are loud.

He mentioned I should intake at the bottom of the rack (front), and exhaust at the top (back). So I can use this fan assembly as an intake (just reverse the installation).

I guess the Slim5 is pretty inexpensive compared to purchasing the side and back panels, I do still need to do more research to get these to work. I would not have been willing to spend extra dough for the AXS pull out rack or panels, because I'm working with too many racks. With one rack I probably would have gone all out, but they must share the cost. =D

There are no cables in that closet. There's nothing in there right now, my christmas tree was in there a few hours ago.

Assembled the frames for the racks.

MA5-14s and MA5-21s.

Got the framing done for two of the racks (I'm going to use two 21U racks side by side here).

One will be for my Home LAN 4 PC setup, cooling, power - the other will be for the lounge projector/kitchen area.

Both outlets are run to different 20A breakers. The PC rack will be junctioned to the monitors and be terminated.

The other will run to the lights, projector, and kitchen area. Yes, the lounge/hallway area will have a projector as well! I may dream too large but when all is done, I think I will have 6 projectors in the house (counting the eyefinity superwide FOV triple projector setup).

Not yet, I was thinking of the Epson 8350 since that line hasn't failed me since I've seen it a few times in various installs and owned the 8100.

I already have the Sim2 HT380 and Optoma HD33 for the other rooms.

Thanks, not there yet though, only at 2 right now! Goals and dreams.
