Yes, my camera is busted (left it in the car in the garage for a few weeks) and the cold froze it up.

I have been enjoying a temporary setup of the EPik Conquest subwoofer and SVS 25-31PCi in the basement. I got rid of most of my onix rocket speakers and replaced them with just the pair of onix reference 2 mains for the basement theater.

I picked up a samsung 5271f LCD TV for the morning room.

More when I have time! Still working on a lot of projects.

I would be there if it wasn't like 10 hours away. You are crazy offering free beer!

We need pictures to entice more locals to come out...

LOL Who said anything about free BEER?
Free Drinks.

HAHA!! Well I'll have beer. Just saying, can't have a rowdy house with expensive equipment around and also too many varying people coming (AV people, family, co workers, managers, etc) can't have them seeing all different sides of me, huh?

I'll post pictures if I have a camera by then!

any pics update?

(p.s. long time roadfly member here too, 4+yrs! mostly in the E46 and E92 M3 forum, sometimes M lounge too )

Cool. I looked at your HT, looks great.

What is wrong with one coat of flat black on the ceiling? I just did my back wall with one coat.

Is the ceiling hard to get coated? is the back wall OK with one coat?

I'll have to buy a new digital camera today to start taking pictures of my progress, because my old one is busted.

Thanks,
ELmO

Starting to paint the basement. Starting off with a black back, black ceiling (soffit area) and black front wall.

Regretting the taupe berklines now..should have gone black.

Yes, I have no screen as of yet and probably will only screen goo for now. It's masked at almost 140" 1.78.

A bit late to the thread. I also have a Ryan Homes house. I'm trying to figure out which model you have. It looks like either the Ravenwood or Chandler. I have the Belvedere model.

I guess I could also start up my own bachelor pad construction thread too. LOL. I'm nearing completion of my own build too. Have fun with the HT build out.

tks!

it's not easy (and most of the time near impossible) to do a nice flat unified layer with just one coat!! especially with light color/white wall!! once it dry, you'll start to see all the paint brush/roller mark!!

Yes please post pictures, it gives everyone ideas. I know after I built mine, my brother law and sister immediately did one for themselves. I've shown mine to a few friends/co workers and they are all interested in "Getting into the game" too - lol.

Dunkirk. They have at least 100 models throughout uSA I think so it's difficult to tell. I bought thi smainly because of the basement! The pillars get in the way though.

Do you happen to know of any intersting chinese blinds I could use to section off my theater from the rest of the basement? Also how hard is it to install new frames/drywall after teh basement isalready finished?

Just redid front wall and side of soffits again because roller marks were showing. The ceiling and back walll look fine with one coat. I thikn it's because the ceiling is textured it's harder to see imperfections....

Here's 300 BEFORE painting (iphone pic). Lit up the room, but the picture quality was outstanding. I wonder what I'll see with darker walls?

I watched some last night. 2.35 now have slightly gray bars (lol, before I couldn't see anything with white walls). 1.78 content (games/movies/hdtv) FLOAT there. That's what I was looking for. Now I see why people use horizontal masking..but sorry Carada, I ain't shelling out $3200 just for masking?

Someone tell me I can't get automatic 2.35 masking cheaper than that? I'm almost wondering if I engineer it myself...

Nice progress, Elmo! Looks great and is very exciting to see the improvements to your space. Now if you throw up a pluge, I'm sure you're going to see a whole lot more differentiation than you could have before. Have you noticed more ANSI 3D pop yet?
Thread Starter
yes, I have seen more ANSI 3D pop now. 1.78 content floats.

2.35 has "gray bars" now. I need to paint some more walls, but I'm deciding on what I'm doing with the room first....

I am still going to research making my own automatic masking system. $3200 for carada's masking? Give me a break!

XD what's wrong with that Greg!!

I'm thinking of cutting the fake wall and sticking my mains (and eventually center) flush with the wall. Not sure of the audio quality difference I'll get though (the speakers back will be in an unfinished sectino of 17x10 roughly). Not sure how it'd look either (would probably have to have some trim around the cut out of the wall to make it look OK)?

ANy ideas?
Once the projector goes up, progress goes down!

I see you are slowly moving toward having the beautiful speakers exposed. Just do it now or you will regret it. Let the veneer out to breath!

Actually I have the speaekrs exposed, I moved them for painting - LOL! I was considering mounting them flush with the wall....

One coat of ralph lauren suede (some dark'ish red) on one pillar.

It's supposed to be just 2 coats, the second one is applied with a 3" brush to give it the suede look - it already looks like suede (iphone picture not high enough quality to see). Basically randomly inconsistent strokes and depth. Might use another roller coat before going with the brush coat....going to do the other pillar this colour and then maybe the rest of the basement if it looks OK. Suede is very time consuming to apply...

What a great space you have to work with! Impressive.

Any type of acoustical treatments?
Thread Starter
Not yet!

Also, that pillar dried a little more pink than I had hoped (LOL). I'm going to ask home depot ot mix a litlte darker suede if they can, and I'll try again. I'm going to try dark gray suede on the rest of the walls - so the basement will be black projector area - dark gray suede on walls, and dark red suede for the 2 pillars...

I wanted dark red suede for the whole room though (except projector area)....
Not yet? What are your plans? I'm at a similar stage in my build right now and have been tossing the idea back and forth.

I have a few posts to research, but I plan to put up some black panels in appropriate spots. My audio is probably a 7/10 on where I'd like it right now...worrying about the paint right now!

Just paitned over that light red suede with venetian red, it's still wet but it looks darker/better.

I think I'll use gray suede for the walls.....I turned the projector on and I could tell that pillar was red (with the lighter suede on it) - I might eventually end up painting it black just so I can't see it with the projector on - I just think it might look better as a different colour when the lights are on...
