Passive Preamp Help

Ok, i need your help here. I have just purchased a pair of Aerial 9s and a pair of Theta Enterprise monoblocks to power them.

I would like to set up a great 2 channel system without the neccesity of spending 5-10k on an active pre/pro. the amps have a relatively low sensitivity 2.5 volts and i need a TVC passive preamp until i can figure out where to go long term. I need a remote control.

Price range $500-700 new or used. Any suggestions and/or comments?

Interesting, an active/passive preamp. Nice feature especially with the remote.

Anyone else? I want to sort this out this weekend. TY

Nice suggestion, however, i am worried about the volume control on this unit.

I have heard about Bent Audio passive as a solution, but they seem price prohibitive. Any thoughts?

DIY? Get a good VC pot.

Thanks Kal, but a VC Pot? I am assuming that means voltage control?

Hahahaha.... now i am getting to the core of the problem or the solution?

I have to give u a nod for chiming in. I will gladly barter my legal experience!

Ok so vc pot? Can u be a little more specific as to why that works here?

I think Kal mean Volume Control Potentiometer aka POT. There are very good traditional ones made by Alps, Penny & Giles etc. There are also stepped resistors which are arguably better and digital controlled stepped attenuators. If you google "passive preamp remote control" or "remote volume control passive" you will get a lot of hits on DIY kits as well as completed products like the adcom.

That's what I meant.

Thanx Kal, I spoke with John Chapman yesterday of Bent Audio and I believe it is in my best interest to try out his new TVC control. My clients prefer to smoke the "Pot" and not build it lol, and tend to agree although there are some very cool DIY guys out there that convince me this is the single most bang for buck in this era of 5k preamps.

I will post a thread later with my results as it will take two weeks for the Theta amps to get built.

Ty guys for your input

These use ultra low noise precision Vishay resistors and are probably the best passive attenuator available:

http://www.placetteaudio.com/

They are known for their passive units but also make an active pre-amp
