Well guys, my Phillips BDP-9000 came in the mail today. I have it setup and popped in Pirates 2. The PCM sounds absolutely incredible running Analogue outs!!!! wheeeeeeeeeee!!!!, I feel like a giddy school girl

Me too, but I'm really only reluctantly neutral. I bought a Sammy 1400 and 10 discs the other day. I wanted to see how the other half lives, so to speak, and to be able to buy any next-gen disc, to enjoy the movies.

So far for all the talk of increased bitrates etc I don't see or hear any difference between the 2 formats. Honestly I don't see what Blu-ray delivers for the higher price.

When Warner discs come out, I'll buy whichever one is cheaper. If they're the same price, I'll buy the HD DVD.

Note: this is not a troll. Sorry if you don't agree with me. At least I put my money where my mouth is and went format-neutral. My love of home theater outweighs format war concerns.

if they look the same to you, why 'unabashedly favor HD-DVD'?
that's in reference to his signature, for those who are hiding sigs.

It's not unusual for someone to devote their heart to the first format purchased.

I'm considering buying HD DVD with the A35, but that doesn't mean I don't love my S1.

hmmm, quick question though. I have the analogues set up on this puppy and I have two buttons on my Onkyo 504 reveiver that will pump audio through. the first is button 5 (multichan) or button 6 (DVD). Which one should I choose ????. When I hit the display button on the first one It says "Multi-Channel" when I hit the display when putting audio through button 6 (DVD) it says "PL-XII Movie". Any help would be appreciated.

The A35 would be a good HD DVD player to start with...

Button 5 is giving you multichannel analog which can carry 5.1 PCM. The DVD button is probably selecting any optical or coax digital cable (SPDIF) you might have connected between the BD player and receiver. The best you'll get PCM-wise through SPDIF is 2.1, which it sounds like your receiver is layering ProLogic IIX over, hence the "PL-IIX" light.

thanks, I had set it to Multichan because it sounded a decent chunk better. Thanks for the info.
