Which store? I have two more titles I'd like to pick up
post #154 of 3268
Picked up 16 BD titles at Springfield, VA CC store for $173 total with B1G1 deal and $40 off $199 coupon. More than half were reg. priced at $29.99. Fantastic deal. Of course, some of them I might not have purchased unless they were this cheap.

CC would not do discount on HD-DVD though. I'll try CC in Gaithersburg, MD on the way home for a few Universal titles that I'd like to get on sale. Worth a shot...

After this fire sale at CC I wonder what the odds are that anyone who is a member of this forum is going to pay MSRP or even close to MSRP in the near future.

I PM DJDaveofKC and he never PM'd me back....he was still on-line when I sent him a PM....too bad. I even put in the title looking for Loc. of KC CC store...so he'd know why I was sending me a PM

I got denied at CC today...oh well, I still took them for a dozen titles under the deal.
I did pick up a couple at FYE today, they still have a sale going on.

Flatliners

Oh yeah, Kevin Bacon fest tonight!

I got the same deal at my CC yesterday. Bought a ton of HDDVD's and BD.

Movies like Hitch, House of Flying Daggers, etc. IMHO there's no point in buying a HD version of a movie that looks like an upconvert.

I've been wondering the same myself whilst lurking these forums over the last couple of weeks. Although, I haven't really avoided titles b/c of crappy transfers, but b/c of crappy films attached to said titles

Right, but that was yesterday. Key being it was YESTERDAY.

Deal was declared dead before doors opened this morning.
I went to CC earlier today and tried buying some BDs. A clerk told me that a memo had been sent out to all employess telling them that they were not particiapating in the sale. Damn.

Oh well. On sunday I got the greatest most mind boggling deal i could've imagined. I picked up 10 Bds for a grand total of $78!

A select number of Sony catalog titles including Fifth Element, Hellboy and others are 2 for $30 at Best Buy next week, i'll have the complete list tonight and post up here.

No HD-DVD software deals, but they are giving 2 free HDDVD's with purchase of a player.

I hope Casino Royale is included, thats the only disc from this weeks sale I have not been able to find.

I got to know the sales associate and I asked her on the phone, if the BOGO was still valid and available. She told me that she rang up someone else earlier today, but the computer would not adjust the prices after entering the promo code. She then checked their ad and realized that they had screwed up, as the BOGO was initially only applicable to certain titles, but the code was not implemented properly in their computers, so all tiles below $30 were coming up good.

With that customer, she had to get managerial clearance and let the customer buy all that he had at the BOGO deal. She also told me that she would be prepared to extend the same courtesy to me only for today, as I had been there several times in the past couple of days. She told me that the offer was only good for today and that she would have to override everything manually. Needless to say that I will be making a final trip today and will be putting up more of my SD-DVDs up for sale on eBay. I may even buy some HD-DVD titles and get back into HD-DVD, which I moved out of back in June, because of a very inferior Toshiba D2/A2.

The CC store in Vista, CA which I called earlier today honored the deal for today only. I ended up getting the following:

BD

1- Blood Diamonds: $12.50
2- Good Night & Good Luck: $12.50
3- The Terminator: $12.50

HD-DVD

1- An American Werewolf in London: $15
2- Batman Begins: $12.50
3- The Breakfast Club: $15
4- The Deer Hunter: $12.50
5- The Fast and the Furious: $12.50
6- Hulk: $12.50
7- The Mummy: $12.50
8- The Mummy Returns: $12.50
9- The Scorpion King: $15
10- The Sting: $12.50
11- The warriors: $12.50

With the Transformers from yesterday, I now have 12 HD-DVDs and about 70 BD titles. I guess that I am going to go format neutral and pick up a Toshiba A30 soon, as I had returned that awful Toshiba A2 back in June.

Finally, that was the end of the CC's BOGO sale. The clerk had to discount it all manually, as the computer would no longer take the discount/promo code
post #166 of 3268
deal still works at cc's top 150 stores....no one knows which stores are in the top 150 though

if you're in a big market, try the "flagship" store in your area.

Well, I've been avoiding titles on both counts. I used to buy tons and tons of DVDs. Most of which I've only watched one time. I'm not repeating my mistake with HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. I'm only buying selected movies that I know I will watch multiple times. Surprisingly (or maybe not) the list is quite short.

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Deepdiscount.com also has b1g1 free for BV titles.

Fifth Element and Hellboy are available on Frys for $10. Don't know why you would pay $15.

When I bought my PS3s for$350, I figured I'd rent at BB, maybe buy a handful of BRs, and, if BR tanked, sell the PS3s as game machines at little loss.

Thanks to this forum, I first went to Frys for their $9.99 sale, then Amazon for its BOGO sale, and finally Circuit City for its BOGO sale. I now have 50 BRs. That wasn't what I had initially intended to do.

Stop posting about these sales which are simply too good to pass up. I know myself; I can't pass up a good deal and will just keep buying BRs.

(Just kidding. Keep those sale posts coming!)

Exactly! I just sold the last 180+ disks of my laserdisk collection on eBay for next to nothing. I vowed I won't get caught up in impulse buying any more. I made a short list (surprisingly short) of "Must Haves", hd dvds I'll watch more than once and swore I'd not buy any others.

Heh! Then I went out Tuesday and loaded up on both formats. So much for resisting impulse buying. I did replace several sd dvds I already own with hd versions so there's some solace in that, I guess.
Stereodude,

I'm doing the same thing with HD as you, not just buying because of the price. A title needs to have lots of replay value for me regardless. Sure seems we are seeing lots of people going crazy with a buying frenzy. I can only imagine how many will collect dust!

The situation isn't quite the same though for me with accumulating SD DVDs as Blockbuster and other video stores have 4 for $20 blowouts on used titles quite often! Many players are quite good for upconverting those titles.

If you don't have a Fry's near you you have to pay $6 for shipping, so you need to pick up a couple if you want it to be a deal.

For Disney BOGOs, Amazon is still the best deal, since you can get 2 for $12.50/ea and still get free shipping. Frys IS better if you're fortunate enough to have one.

Thanks to this forum/posts I was able to save a few $$$. Went to my local CC in Victorville, So. Cal to see if they were having the sale. Picked up a few BDs and then went to the Cust. Service desk to ask if they had the movie "The Invisible" on BD. She checked and said they were sold out, but before I could mention anything she noticed the BDs I had in my hand and told me they were having a BOGO free sale on all Blu-Rays $29.99 and under.

She didn't give me any hassle or anything. When she scanned the movies the register took the discount automatically. I didn't go shop crazy like some other people due to some financial limitations, but was still able to pick up some movies I've been meaning to watch:

The Prestige
Casino Royale
The Descent

I bought an odd number of BDs as they had slim pickings, but to make up for it she threw in Transformers SD in for free. She told me the sale will be good through Saturday so I'll see if I go back.

probably pretty decent, i thinkk with this alot of us took care of our back catalog and we're "caught up". I think for new releases we'll still splurge.

To some degree you are right, most here don't pay MSRP since Amazon and Fry's don't ever charge MSRP. However, I will continue to pay Amazon and Fry's prices for titles I like. I know I will be getting the Spiderman box set when it is released.

I used this as a chance to pick up some discs I wanted but haven't had the extra funds available to pick them up.

thought that deal ended on tuesday? Either way, maybe someone doesn't have a Fry's near them...or maybe they want to avoid this:

And just pick em up at the local BB.

I don't often post, but I do read the forums alot. I just had to thank everyone on informing the community about this sale as it is not in the CC ad this week. I went to the CC in Mesquite, TX and bought 12 BD's for around $180, which is $15 a piece. I replaced almost everything in my small collection except for movies made by supporters of HD. The manager told me that corporate made a mistake, but they are honoring the sale until the new add comes out. The manager also told me to stock up because it is the greatest deal they have had for BD. Thanks to all.
