If you haven't gone to Circuit City yet, you may want to tonight.
I just got off the phone with my bro-in-law. I told him about the CC (Arundel Mills, MD) I found that was doing the deal for all BD and HD DVD titles. This was around noon when I went there. He just now left and they would not give him the discount. In fact, they added a paper over the BD section listing the titles that apply for the deal.
I guess with all the buzz the CC guys are figuring out their mistake and fixing it. I suggest you go now before your local store shuts it down.
Letters from Iwo Jima 14.99
Good Night & Good Luck 12.49
FF Silver Surfer 14.99
Great Raid 14.99
they had the list posted, and clerk told me to make sure titles were on the list. I checked FF and Iwo Jima alone at the register, and confirmed that they were also included (bottom of ad states "selection may vary by store," and you definately don't need to buy one of the flicks on the list)
Great Raid is the only one on their list
...hehe, I'm glad I didn't walk next door to BB and ask for a price match...I would be poor. although, dissapointed that I forgot to check for Stargate, and didn't see T2 on the rack.
This makes me so mad. I went to Circuit City and it looks like they didn't have a deal going on at all. I called a guy over and he said he hasn't heard of this sale going on at all. So everything in store was still full price. Do I have to go to the register and wait for the discount to apply there?
yes, absolutely take a few to the register and have them check it. It appears that the majority of clerks are out of the loop.

I was trying to find Robocop for BD but no one had it
CC deal worked @ Mansfield, OH store on all under $30. Quite a nice haul for me
Lord of War
10 BD's for 147.00 out the door, not bad with many of these being $24 and up on Amazon. Only disappointment was no DAT or Robocop. FYI...@5pm they still had 4 copies of Transformers on HDDVD for $15...clerk said he only saw 2 sold all day..pretty low turn out. To my surprise the clerk actually knew about the discounts!!!
The CC in my area would not give BOGO deal on any BR priced above $24.99. So, I left them at the register and left.
The BOGO for CC is either store or state specific.
I went to 2 in my local area and neither had Blu-ray or HD DVD BOGO.
btw, I took the discs to the counter and after they rang up, I asked and they said no BOGO.
Their weekly Ad also does not have BOGO for any format.
HELP!!! Does this deal apply for all circuit citys? I went to my local one today briefly and they didnt have a sign up indicating sales. They only had one person working and he was busy the whole time so I couldnt find anyone to ask. It also isnt in the ad. What titles apply. Is it all stores? HELP?
Bailey's must have gotten more stock since last night (or just put more out). When I called at 6, they had 2 RoboCops in stock, both still on the shelf when I got there. No Day After Tomorrow there, so I picked up Silver Surfer for my 2nd $30 title.
For the $25s I picked up 7 Years in Tibet and Wild Things.
Then I went to the Tysons Corner (mall) store and scored Day After Tomorrow and Hitchiker's Guide... BOGO.
Getting the deals wasn't that easy though. I had to persevere.
At Bailey's no sale came up at the register and I was taken over to customer service, where the first attendant said she remembered something about it, but not the details (first, another girl tried to say it was last week). I was smart to slowly divulge what I knew (and keep my cool) because the CS person thought it was only on particular titles, and I said it was only $29.99 and under and she said "that's right." A call came in and someone else rang me up, making each title half price for me.
When I went to Tysons (I actually went to both stores, but only the one by the mall had Day After Tomorrow), the guy who rang me up didn't know about the sale. The dummy woman who was there last week when I tried to buy Robocop said it was only on select titles, but she didn't know which ones. The guy didn't know and couldn't find anything (he said someone else had just asked, and I don't think they gave it that person), but again I mentioned it was BD and HD DVD 29.99 and under. He rang it up as the 2nd title being free, and I was on my way. Perhaps we're benefiting from the employees not actually knowing what the sale is, since they seem inclined to take us at our word. It would make sense if the sale was just the Disney titles everyone else has BOGO this week.
So, CC may get their "select list" together by tomorrow if the clerks keep going through this.
I resisted picking up American Psycho and Total Recall together because I'm hoping for a better edition of Total Recall down the line. Would have liked American Psycho for $12.50. Was tempted by Dracula, which seemed to be everywhere in volume, but just couldn't justify it even at the price seeing as how I disapprove of the transfer. Ashame. Maybe if American Psycho had been at either of the Tysons Corner stores I'd have been tempted by that point, but I only found it at Bailey's, where I went first.
I think each store gets certain titles and may get all of them for the area. Amazing how Robocop was everywhere except Tysons Corner in NoVa. It's only supposed to be THE prime shopping center.
Thanks to all the folks who gave me RoboCop tips. Fortunately, I didn't have to drive too terribly far, though traffic sucks at that time of the evening.
You might hate me, but I found their one copy of Robocop at that same store this afternoon. I also bought Transformers, Wild Hogs, and Dazed And Confused, for about $65 total.
DIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! I was there around noon and didnt see it!
i just went right after work in San Jose (Almaden store) and picked up 2 more titles! The employee was aware of the sale and even encouraged me to come back tommorow when their new shipment arrives! Hopefully this deal pulls through the entire week.
Both times today there was no need for a price override. Just came through smoothly as %50 off, BUT you did have to buy an even amount of movies.

Really? I was just there a hour ago. I got F4ROTSS, 28 Days Later, Blood Diamond, 300. Also price matched Bram Stoker's Dracula and The Patriot with the Fry's ad.
Sigh...well I was there at around 8:30 and the manager was hovering around the customer service area (another reason I hate CC - why no normal checkout lines?). He seemed to take glee in shooting down the sale price. He specifically asked me to show him the ad that advertised the prices on the disks I was trying to buy, and then said "you can't, can you". Ugh.
