I have been enjoying this receiver for a month or so now, and the joys of lossless audio are great.
I do have a few questions that hopefully some of you can answer.
I have read through the manual, but am confused on what I should set some of the options to.
1) The manual suggests I set the speaker size to Large. When doing this, bass will be output from the speakers.
Here is the exact text from the manual.
- Large. If you connect large speakers that will reproduce bass frequencies, select "large" Normally, select Large.
-Small. If the sound is distorted, or you feel the lack of surround effects when using multi channel surround, select "small" to active the bass redirection circuitry and output the front channel bass frequencies from the sub. When the front speakers are set to small or large, the center and surround speakers will automatically set to your setting.
The large and small settings for each speaker determine whether the internal sound processor will cut the bass signal from that channel. When the bass is cut from a channel, the bass redirection circutry sends the correspondnig bass frequencies or other large speakers. However, since bass sounds have a certain amount of directionality it is best to cut them if possible. Therefor, even when using small speakers, you can set them to large if you want to output bass frequencies from that speaker.
So here is my question, shouldn't I have them set to small? isn't that the purpose of the sub, to produce bass ? Why do they recommend large?
2) I want to make sure the receiver passes through audio and video untouched. I do not want it to covert the signal! I have read the manual but I do not see any such settings.
3) Do you see anywhere in the manual where it shows you how to adjust the level of the front speakers? Scrolling though "1: LEVEL" I can adjust the level of the center, and 2 surround speakers, however there is no option to set the level of the two front speakers.
Here is the link to the manual.
