I have the towers set to large but I have sub "on". I'll try turning it off. Will that not allow sub out then? Guess I'll find out... I can't get sub out working yet anyways. I hate Denon manuals!

Anyone know about my original question? Or, how a 5t5 system would compare to a klipsch quintet III system?

I would get 3 6T6 MTM along with the A2-300. That's $773 for your LCR + sub, use any lower speakers for the surrounds for the time being, upgrade later to the 5TCs. Either get the 6T series or the 5T series together for the LCR, don't mix them for the fronts. You can mix the 6T fronts with the 5T rears or even another brand but stay within the same series on LCR. So your 2nd option of 5T series all around for $700 is better than your 1st option of mixing 6T6 MTM and 5T5 MTM.

I believe the eD speakers will sound much better than the Klipsch Quintet IIIs. Don't the IIIs have a very high freq. response cutoff?

I feel your pain on the Denon Manuals. Worst I've ever seen. If you have your Sub set to ON, then it is still trying to send the Low frequencies (whatever your crossover is set to)to the sub, which you don't have. This means frequencies below your crossover (probably 80Hz) aren't being ouput to anything. Try setting it to NO and leaving your Mains to Large. You won't get the thump you would from a sub obviously, but I've been pleased with the bass from the towers on movies.

After several years I'm back in the HT game due to marriage and building a new home. After weeks of research I'm planning on going with eD.
I'm looking at a very similar setup (but 7.1) for my 15 x 25 x 9 ft. HT room. I will be doing 70% movies and sports and 30% music. It is also an enclosed basement - so I don't need to worry about neighbors.

If the Yamaha 661 may be lacking in power, what amplification would be recommended for the 6 ohm 7.1 system?

I'm also looking at the a7s450 as a sub. It comes in 550w and 1300w and has the option of an EQ. Which option for power would be advisable and do I need an EQ?
Thanks for your guidance!

From all I've read, don't even hesitate to get the 1300W for a paltry $85.!!

Oh yeah, I forgot... dump the Yamaha and buy an Onkyo 905 (or, if money's an issue, the 805). You will not regret it.

This is just what I was looking for. Thanks much for the advice, I think I will go ahead and pull the trigger on a 5T5 setup, and yeah the Klipsch are nice, but they have a fairly high FR.

I am thinking of going with the 5.1 setup. What cables would I need? Can I get it all at monoprice?

mwelicka,

I hooked mine up with stuff from monoprice. I just bought speaker wire on a spool (figure out how much you need based on where your receiver and speakers are going). I bought 12AWG but I'm sure you would be fine with lesser gauge. I have seen many posts about just using lamp cord from HomeDepot. For a couple extra bucks I went for it. Also, after trying to wire the speakers by hand and finding it a major pain, I picked up the screw-type banana plugs and they made my life SO much easier. 10 pairs for either end of the wire for 5 speakers.

I don't get my sub for a couple weeks but I will just pick up a digital coax cable (I think that is right) once I figure out just how long I'm going to need.

Thinking of getting:

1x a2-300 Sub
1x A6 - 5T5 Center
1x A6 - 6T6 MTM Pair (fronts)

and use a pair of HTiB panasonic speakers for the surrounds, until I can afford to buy a pair of 5TC bookshelves to replace them.

Would the 6t6 pair overpower the 5t5 center? Or is mixing 6t6 and 5t5s in the front a bad idea?

I could alternatively get this for about 700:

1x a2-300 sub
1x 5t5 center
1x 5t5 pair
1x 5tc pair

for a complete 5.1 setup. You think that would be a decent setup? I'm currently using a Klipsch Quintet III 5.0 setup, along with a jerry rigged subwoofer scavanged from a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 computer speaker setup (Have an Acculine Asub on pre-order, but it won't be made until around Februrary, but will cancel it if I go with an Ed package instead.) Although the sound isn't bad, I'm left wanting more sound, the Klipshe just dont have enough base, and my sub that im currently using isn't meant for a HT setup, so its all kinda dissapointing. Maybe I should wait till the Asub shows up, but by then it would be to late to get a good price on an Ed sub.

So anyway, I am thinking of taking the Quintets back and ordering one of the packages above.

Any help is apprecaited!

this is what i would do if i was u
i would only get the FRONTS AND THE SUB and buy the surrounds later when u have extra $$$$

1 x A6 - 6T6 - MTM Single $165.75
1 x A6 - 6T6 - MTM Pair $310.25
1 x A2 - 300 Subwoofer $297.50
Sub-Total: $773.50
United Parcel Service (1 x 0lbs) (FREE Ground Shipping): $0.00
Total: $773.50

Hey all!!

I would like to know how the Ed A3 5TC - Bookshelf sounds in a 5.1 setup in a room size of 10'x8'? Keep in mind that thetotal room size is 14'x13 but the speakers will not be placed in the whole room, just in the 10'x8' area'??

The setup I am looking at from Ed is:

4 - A3 5TCs
1 - A6 6T6
1 - A3 300 (sub)

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think the A6 6T6 will be "too big" for the A3 5TCs. It will probably over power it. I would downgrade the center to the 5T5 and maybe use the money you saved to upgrade the L and R to 5T5s as well.

Something could definitely be screwey with your system. My son and I watched the very beginning scene of Polar Express with the train (I've never seen it) and it sounded like, and FELT like the train was in my living room. My sub just went to "under construction" today, so I have NO subwoofer right now, and was still amazed! That's with my Onkyo 805 pushing them FWIW.

Figured I'd go ahead and post these in this thread also. All the speakers are from Elemental Designs. The center and the rears are the 6T6 MTM's, and the towers are their 6T6's. It's all being pushed by the Onkyo 805 that is hiding behind the center channel at the moment, as I seem to be missing a piece to the stand I was going to put the center on. The sub has not arrived yet, so more pics will be added once it has. I'll probably snap a few more pics once I get my xmas tree out of the way. Not much space in this little duplex.

I thought I'd post a pic of my first HT setup.

DETAILS
42" Panasonic Plasma
Toshiba A3 hd dvd player
HK receiver
3 E.D. 5T5 MTM's
1 10" Dayton sub

I'm still waiting on 2 E.D. 5TC's for my rear surrounds.

It's not the best setup, but it definitely keeps a smile on my face

VictoriousOne,

due to space issue within my built in entertainment center, I'm considering running the 5T5 MTMs for the L/C/R. Want to know your opinions on this and if you regret not getting the 6t6? Of course my room is quite large 17x27 and opened to the dining and kitchen. Thx.

Has anyone wall mounted the A6-6T6 (non-tower)? What mounting hardware did you use? I am considering pulling the trigger, but I must wall mount them (kids).
I'm looking at doing the same thing with the 6t6 and am thinking I can hit the Pottery Barn outlet and pick up some of these:

Bear in mind guys, the 6T6's weigh 23 pounds. Most floor stands I found had a weight capacity of around 15 pounds, so it is definitely something worth keeping in mind.

Really? I think you'd have to go out of your way to find floor stands that only hold 15lbs.

What do you think about these? http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...40-710&ctab=15

I want to order on Monday so I have to decide whether I can wall mount them or not. If I can't wall mount them, I can't get them
post #146 of 2079
IM thinking about going with 6t6 MTM as my mains and center, does anyone run these as mains or heard them as mains? I would be coming from Athena B1.2's with an Onkyo 805. Just wondering if 6t6 MTM would be a significant upgrade from the athenas.

Looks like it could be promising but it doesn't specify how much it opens up to see if it will be able to properly hold the sides or top/bottom of the speakers.

Does anything think my kids (3 & 5 year old girls) will knock the towers over? They would be going in the Family Room and my kids play in there most of the day. I don't want to chance them falling on my kids. I am thinking 11"x12" and 55 lbs. should be sturdy. What do you think?

I have a 3.5 year old boy and sometimes little friends over, and have never had a problem or worry about the towers. The towers are a much sturdier way to go over bookshelfs on stands which tend to be VERY top heavy.
I think I'm about ready to order. Here is what I'm planning:

A6-6T6 Towers Mains
A6-6T6 MTM Center
A3-5TC Rears
A3-300 Sub with 130v.2 (already ordered)

I have to stick with the A3-5TC for rears. They must be small and wall mountable (WAF). I am only 3 feet from the back wall so I don't see this being a problem. What do you think?
