Did you compare frequency response curves, like in REW? A peak or valley in either speaker would affect the overall average level in calibration.

It is in the same spot. My front 3 speakers are all at -6.5 on the reciever now, before the center was -8.

I didn't do frequency response curves.

The thing is, when watching tv or movies the 12 sounds perfect when it's level matched and the 6" needed to be bumped up 3-4 db's to sound right.

If Alex rates sensitivity at one frequency, like 1000hz, then another speaker rated similarly or different but advertising the same spec could yield a very different response. If he rates it using an average of a wide range, like 100 Hz to 15 kHz, then comparing with other speakers also rated using the same method is more feasible.

For instance, many JBL Pro speakers qualify the number with, "Average of 500 Hz to 2.5 kHz."

Hmm now I'm confused. I thought you said earlier that you had to turn the 12" up 1.5 dB to match the 6".

Now you're saying you had to turn the 6" 3dB up (which would be more expected since it has lower rates sensitivity)?

still have the klipsch center until I get the new ed[c]12 center

I turned it up for the receiver test tones to match. In real tv/movie watching the 12" sounds much more loud and open than the 6" did which is why I used to have to turn up the 6" 3-4 db's louder than the mains.

So, I now have the 12" at -6.5 while watching tv/movies.

I had the 6" at -4.5 even though the receiver test tones had it matched to the mains at -8.

I know that's a bit confusing, does it make sense though?

Carp- why is your center at -6.5 if you have the same speakers for L/C/R?

I have the receiver calibrated so that when the master volume is at 0 it's at reference at my listening position and that's how it worked out. All 3 L/C/R speakers are at -6.5 and the rears are at -8.

Nezff, what's the height of the space where your center is now? Will the stock [c]12 center fit there or did you have eD do a special build?

They will have to shrink the height down just a tad.

Carp, what reveiver or pre pro are you running? Audyssey? Im wondering, because I ran my calibration with just the front three hooked up and it cut them -12db which is the lowest.

Pioneer Elite, so no Audyssey. I have MCACC but I don't trust it, and my seating position is too far away for the cord wit the mic to reach anyway so I use Avia disk test tones and a radio shack spl meter.

-12 would make me nervous, because what if they needed to be lower but couldn't because that's the lowest they will go?
I'm using a xpa5 and only calibrated it with just the front three.

What height will they be? Did they increase the length?

The room looks great. I envy those of you that have a room that you can turn in to a theatre room. Sigh.

Here are some pics of the eD[c] 12's I got over the weekend from mrcoop.

edit: for some reason it won't let me upload the pic of my front right speaker, but it is just on a stand that I made so no biggie.

Here is the right one, with the stand I modified with 2X4's to make it a bit more sturdy.

edit: well it keeps failing to upload the file of my right speaker so oh well.

The cinema 12s look awesome, but how do they do for music?

My last set of horn speakers were fatiguing and sort of muddy in the midrange. If the 12s are clear and a bit laid back, I might look into them.

For me, they've been pretty non-fatiguing, and I'm pretty sensitive to harshness. I have mild innitus in my left ear and harshness brings pain. lol ...

I have the upgraded DE-250 horn, but can't say I've done any real music listening on them. X-box? I've done that plenty!

I have not listened to any music yet in my room. When I picked them up from mrcoop he had them all set and we listened to music for about a half or so and I thought they sounded really good. Even though the specs rate that they only play down to 80hz, it felt as if you were able to get a little more usable bass below 80hz.

The first thing I did after running Audyssey was to play BF3 at -25dB and let me tell you the first explosion I heard almost had me jumping out of my seat. The sound is just so unreal. The gun sounds have a completely different tonal sound than they did compared to my Polk M40's I was using...in a good way.

I listened to music yesterday and I noticed they are Warner and near as bright as my klipsch. I like it.

I was impressed and will probably be getting rid of the klipsch.

A+++ to ed

On a second note, carp traded in his Maggie's and I'm trading in my klipsch. What dies that tell ya. Lol

Interesting.

My Acoustech's had a similar signature to Klipsch, but I couldn't stand them for music. For movies they were awesome.

I jumped on the JBL 190 deal, and have been in love with them. I was supposed to get the 180s for $230/pair, but the store ran out and upgraded me to the 190s at no charge. Serious bang for the buck at $230/pair. I don't even think you can make DIY towers with the same quality at that price.

I bought my first pair at $349 a pair and thought it was a steal, so now I have 4 towers in a 7.1 setup and it is intense. The 190's are awesome all around speakers for the price of one ed 12, but I'm always upgrading to find the "perfect" sound for my room.

To my ears......They are not bright/fatiguing.

I agree, and I am very sensitive to harsh sounding speakers especially with my musical tastes.

The De250 is the best part of the speakers for me ... I wish there was a little bit more of a mid-range bass push, but I'm happy with them ... The upgraded woofers might fix some of that, but then you're getting into 1000$ a speaker territory ..

That does say a lot right there.

I can't believe I spent so long with Axioms without really being happy with them. Would have kept Maggies forever if they were more dynamic and no so sweet-spottish. I am keeping these eD's for a very long time!!!
After speaking with Carp I am very interested in the Cinema 12's. I was all set to buy a complete Klipsch Ultra2 setup, minus the subwoofers, but my source dried up so no longer a good option. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts comparing the two. Thanks

Jason
Jason, remember the eD's will work great as long as you use a 80hz crossover or higher. Do you like to crossover any lower than that?

You probably already know this, just making sure.
