Connection Set Up Question

Alright, I have a variety of wires and what not and was wondering what was the best combination to get the best possible sound and video.

First for my hardware.

I have a HDMI able cable box
56" LED DLP from Samsung with basically any input/output you could think of.
And I have a 1250 watt 5.1 soundsystem with quite a few different input/outputs.
HDMI Xbox 360

Now for what I have:

2 HDMI cables
1 Optical AudioCable
A few component cables
A few HDMI-DVI cables
quite a few analog audio cables

I also have a few other cables but I think these are all that I will be needing.

Currently this is how its going:

Using HDMI from cable box to tv
component from sound system (has dvd player) to TV
Analog audio from TV to sound system (in aux)

I have the xbox, other hdmi, and optical cable unconnected but I'm pretty sure I will be using them, just don't know how it should go.

What would you suggest the best configuration to be?

For DD5.1 you need a digital signal. At this point in time I believe that only HD programing has DD5.1 SD has DD stereo.

The two channel analog audio connection from the TV will give you stereo or faux surround. Even if your TV has a digital audio out, some TVs will pass a digital audio signal and some will not. Your TV might output the DD5.1 from a cable program but pass the digital audio from the Xbox

Your external digital audio sources are the cable box and the XBox. If the TV will pass a digital audio signal you need a optical or coaxial digital audio connection from the the TV to the sound system. If the the TV does not pass digital audio you will need a digital audio connection from the cable box to the sound system and from the Xbox to the sound system.

Your link does not work for me. In any case the best I can do would be to try and find the specs and user manual online. Even that may not give the specific answer you need although it is the place to start. If you have the TV already it should be fairly easy to check. Most receivers indicate on the display if the incomming program material is Dolby and what flavor of Dolby. Connect the optical out from the TV to the optical in on the HT box, tune an HD channel that is broadcasting a program with DD5.1 sound track and see what you get.

If this is all still confusing go on line and see if you can find links to the owner's manual for the TV and to the manual for for your HT box. If you can't find the manuals on line at the manufacturers' web sites, then at least post the name and full model number. I or someone who owns that gear may be able to help.

I am a bit cranky tonight so, could you not find the owner's manual on the samsung site or could did you not bother to look? It's there. If you won't share the make and model info on your "1250 watt" HT box and can't be bothered to look for the online manuals, don't expect people to go out of their way for you.

Free no strings honest advice. There is unlikely to be a difference in PQ between component vid and HDMI. Digital audio and HDMI carry the same bitstream.
