Monster House or Corpse Bride?

Debating which of the two titles to pick up today. Will no doubt eventually get both but as I have bought up quite large recently the Minister of Finance' has only approved the requisition for 1 more title (as I will also be grabbing Apocalypto and the uncut version of Face Off in a 3 for 2' deal).

I notice that Hi Def Digest rates these both pretty highly but gives the nod to Corpse Bride. What are your thoughts on these two titles??

I have seen Corpse Bride on SD and found it quite enjoyable, haven't seen Monster House as yet

I did do a search on here and got some reactions to each of the movies but I'm after a comparison between the two. Which would you get??

Corpse Bride here too. Keep waiting on an announcement for Nightmare Before Christmas. Going to see the 3D version as soon as it comes out here.

I have seen them both and enjoy Monster House a lot better. Both look stunning but I liked Monster House movie a lot better (just my opinion)..

Not even close. Corpse Bride is brilliant. Superb animation. Superb characterization. And the music and sound effects are fantastic. While Monster House is OK, it looks amateurish compared to Corpse Bride.

Put me down for Monster House. Corpse Bride is a musical so I don't really care for it.

Corpse Bride....A must have

The Movie Itself: I prefer the Corpse Bride

Picture Quality: Corpse Bride is a much more impressive demo as Monster House has some intentional digital processing that subdues the picture. Also a factor for those of us that don't have constant height projectors, Corpse Bride is 1.78:1 and Monster House is 2.4:1.

+1 for Corpse Bride.

Both great movies; But I'd opt for Corpse Bride. Can't go wrong with Depp and Elfman.

Depends on your taste in movies.

Corpse Bride is more suitable for adults as there is no real horror in that movie, it's more of a neat halloween flick with a great ending. The minus here is that you've already seen it. The plus is that it is still suitable for kids, even if it has skeletons and zombies, the horror factor is still quite low.

Monster House, I actually do enjoy as much as Corpse Bride, but in a different way. Although teenagers might enjoy this movie, be warned that if you really think about it, this is a true horror movie once you get past the animation facade and think about what the story is really about. If this was acted with real people, it would be a pretty scary ghost story. This movie might scare younger kids very easily. So this movie is strange in that it has kids in it, yet it is not really suitable for kids. The biggest plus for you is you haven't seen it.

Thanks for all your replies everyone!

Well, when I just shot out for lunch, the scores were pretty even between the two. What is a man to do? You guessed it, I bought both!

So I picked up Apocalypse, Face Off, Monster House and Corpse Bride. I had to do some quick thinking to avoid the imminent peace talks' with the boss'. So I bought her Entrapment on BD (which for some reason she has wanted for AGES).

So, added 5 BD's to the collection and avoided world war 3 in the process.

Everybody wins! Thanks again to all those who replied.

While I love Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare before christmas are two of my favorite movies), Corpse Bride is my least favorite movies of his -- I thought it lacked the love the rest of his movies seem to have.

I thought Monster House was much better... I was actually quite surprised how much I liked it (bought it at a b1g1 sale a while back).

Movie wise I prefer Monster House... Picture wise the Corpse bride is better. Monster House is pretty good PQ wise though -- it has a fake grain on it, so it isn't nearly as clean as a lot of animation, but it still looks good.

Corpse Bride.

Tim Burton
Johnny Depp
Danny Elfman
Gothic Music
Gothic Setting
Gothic Story
Gothic Designs

ALL EQUAL CORPSE BRIDE.

MH is a great movie, but no where near as good as CB.

Wow, can't believe you'd even compare these two films.

Corpse Bride is a must own.

...I wouldn't buy Monster House even if it was only $1 and came with a free bowl of soup.

My kids (10, 11, and 12) all liked Monster House more than Corpse Bride.

Monster House!!!

No contest here. Monster house wasn't remotely scary and it lacked the kind of atmosphere that horror movies need to have. In fact I didn't like it on any level. The house in question wasn't even scary.
