Quick Remote Questions

Alright I have a couple quick questions on remote controls for my HTPC. I dont want to do the whole tap into the power source thing so it can turn it off and what not I just want to control once it is on. So since that is said and done here are my questions.

Can I control Vista's media center using the Harmony 880 remote? If so what add on's would I need to make it so my computer could have the remote connect to it?

If thats hard would it just be better to grab one of those vista/xpmce remotes that come with the USB rf thingy and just have two remotes on for the Video/Audio and one for the HTPC?

Also anyone know a good place to buy any of these products? As in the Harmony 880 and whatever piece I need to make my computer work with it. As well as a Media Center remote that is decent for under 25'ish

You need an MCE IR reciever for the Harmony to work (I think the codes are 001 or 002). You can buy a chip MCE remote and receiver and use any universal learning remote. Other option is to buy a dedicated universal media center remote such as the Gyration. You can buy it for around 50$ with the reciever (it's 2.4GHZ reciever) from Buy.com

Yes you can control MCE with the 880, I do that now.

Just get this USB IR recevier/remote combo: http://www.pcalchemy.com/product_inf...bc37a2c285c31b

set the remote aside, program your 880 with the harmony application, there will already be the codes you need for MCE, and thats really all you need to do.

Well no its not programmed directly into the remote. You need to plug in the remote to your pc, load the software and setup and activity for the MCE computer, what I ment was you don't need to do the old school remote to remote programming.

Ya I understood I meant its nice I dont have to point the remote at it and program keys. I mean it makes sense that since you set it up on a computer it would be able to control it but I mean I never expect to much as to not get dissapointed often.
