What do you think about this ???

There is a video you can watch.

Having this tool out of the case will allow you to reduce the power required to keep ALL of your hard disks inside the case, to reduce the heat inside the case and to extend the life of the HDDs as you don't need to have ALL of your HDDs, spinning the whole day.

We could have all the HDD inside small cases like our DVD collection.
When you want to use one of the HDD to watch a film, you only need to take the HDD and insert it into the docking station.

Best regards,
Alberto

It's an external, USB2.0 SATA dock. Very convenient - but way pricey - for hot plugging bare SATA drives.

It's USB2.0 only, so I wouldn't want to use it as my boot drive. (And it's useless for PATA, which makes it useless with my large stack of bare older drives.)

someone should have made this a long time ago.

oh and shipping is almost the same cost as the device.

Sorry, If I wanna get raped I'll go to prison.

I made something similiar to this using the guts of an external hard drive enclosure. I wasn't happy with an internal hot swap due to the enormous temps my drive was reaching. As mentioned above, it is USB but I'm in the process of getting some parts from CyberGuys to connect it direct SATA.

Although it's a cool idea, there isn't a lot of heat (comparatively) generated by the hard drives vs video cards/processors. For an external sata connection i think I would prefer esata.

This would be great for those who are imaging hdd's for building pc's but don't think its a viable solution for day to day constant use.

People who image pcs can get a much less elegant solution for under $10

Honestly I'd buy it with company money but not my own.

Hi,

Sometime ago I started this post showing this gadget. The problem .... it was only USB 2.0.

Now the eSATA version is ready.

What do you think now about it ???

Thanks in advance.

Why wouldn't you just get an eSata enclosure like the Vantec? It looks much better and is cheaper.

That would suck for a HTPC. I hate hearing the HD's seeking in my case. Now put the drive outside the case and their even louder.
