Wait a minute........
Just because it's not that extreme doesn't mean the story isn't changed.
These are extreme examples of how just changing lighting and color can make a new movie.
Say you have a silent movie. The scene is Dracula waving his hands in the air violently.
1)By making the lighting go super bright and then dim, you imply Dracula died.
2)By desaturating all colors until almost no color exists, you have a Dracula flashback.
3)By flashing some red and white or black, you show Dracula is angry.
4)By flashing random colors, Dracula is at a Grateful Dead concert.
Showing as 1,2,3 and then 4 shows: Dracula dies, he thinks back on his life before going to Hell, he's dead in the afterlife and becomes angry about the waste of his life, so he goes to a Grateful Dead concert in Hell.
While showing 4,3,2 and then 1 shows: Dracula is a party animal, while at the concert he becomes angry, which causes him to think back upon another time, he has a heart attack and dies.
I changed nothing to the original score, dialogue, or delivery, but doing post after effects with some NLE software, just like those two pictures you showed. But I'm able to deliver 24 completely different stories. Just because a person isn't sophisticated enough to notice or care, doesn't mean Dracula isn't a completely new movie now.
And yeah, Dracula now looks exactly like Mother Theresa in that second pic, huh? With a burst gall bladder!
