Last I heard it was postponed. But that was October 16, 2007...any news since then?

The UK import is the shiz nite.

My first ever BD import. It was totally worth it.

Yep. The UK import is very good. Special features are not in high def (not important to me personally). I wish it had filmmakers' commentary, though. But, the main feature quality is excellent, that's the most important thing.

Last I heard was Oct. 24th... Is that different now?

What movie gets released on a Wed?

It's not on any schedules anywhere.

Sony will hopefully be delivering it soon. My guess is that we may see many if not most of the "Superbit" catalog making their way to Blu-ray over 2008. I think they pulled it along with Legends of the Fall to ensure that the Blu-ray versions really shine. I think they have felt the sting of the Fifth Element debacle and to a lesser extent, Bram Stokers Dracula. Though less-than-perfect, both were still a step up from any previous home video releases.

I haven't seen a new date yet for the U.S. release.

Kinda fun showing off the fat case with weird markings to people (weird to us... sorry )

The PQ is fantastic to boot.

I like the rating at the bottom:

"Contains strong bloody violence"

Definitely British

I want Denise Richards, in HD!

What??

It is actually bloody violence. blood and gore is so much more effective in HD.

Why are the UK cases 'fat?
One of my favorite things about BD is the case compared to the DVD ones.

And one thing that I've been wondering. If BD wants to be diffent than HD DVD then why do they both use the exact same case(diff. color obviously)?

Don't forget that Wild Things is also available now.

LOL.

I want this movie because its directed by Verhoeven (its totally over the top). Anyone taking this seriously or just because of Denise Richards is in it would be nuts!

Does anyone know if the Australian disc is code free like the UK one?

PIcked the Australian release of this one up today. Picture quality is stunning - and really shows up a few of the special effects for how quaint and dodgy they are - but I did find the packaging very misleading when it came to extras (this will be the same packaging as the UK release, I'm presuming, just with the obnoxious Australian rating graphic printed on it).

The details panel on the back cover clearly states, under both "Feature" and "Bonus", "1080p High Definition". When it comes to the bonus features, they presumably thought that they could get away with that because of the "Movie Showcase" non-feature (similar to the one on the Apocalypto BD) which just contains three scenes from the movie to show off your system with. Underneath that single option is the heading "Original DVD Features", with everything below that line at 480p (and for some reason, windowboxed when I play them on the PS3).

The we have the bonus features list on the back cover. It reads:

MOVIE SHOWCASE
DELETED SCENES
AUDIO COMMENTARY
etc etc

Now at this point, having seen all this and gone "brilliant, it's got new 1080p extras and a commentary!" I promptly bought the disc.

The "audio commentary", though, is only on the 8.5 minute "Scene Developments" featurette; there is no commentary on the movie itself.

So, great transfer and all, but I can't help feeling I got conned just a little bit

So there is no US release date then?

Dude those arachnids still hold up. Most films today dont mask the CGI that well. They dont stick out a bit.
(spiderman 3 cost a quarter of a billion dollars and you can point out every piece of CGI in the movie)

If it's available in Australia and is region free ... how do we in the US purchase this disc now? Can you post a link?

Thanks.

Did you notice the 480i cover art? Looks like hell. Glad it wasn't a preview of what was on the disc.

In comparison to the 1998 US Columbia TriStar Home Video DVD release the UK Blu-ray has no scenes cut from the movie. The shower scene is thee.
