DIY Arcade/Console Machine - Page 2

looking good!!

I was wondering if you were worried about the dangers of the residual charge of the tv screen or if you knew how to discharge it when you took out the tv. I was warned before that the capacitors can hold a charge that can be deadly.

I haven't turned on my cocktail table in a while and I think I might gut it soon. Hopefully it is safe now.

I'm a complete ignorant fool! I removed the old crt from the cabinet like a jackass. When I de-cased my crt I did do it carefully. I've heard that one should never open a t.v. or crt. With that being said, I de-cased my crt very carefully, trying not to touch anything at all that wasn't plastic!

My mame cab seems to be moving along quite well, especially for a budget build. However I should lay a discalimer: NEVER ATTEMPT ANYTHING YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT!!!!

That being said, here's my guitar hero budget build:

Nothing like diving into a project as a chance to learn how to solder!

If you are going to gut the cocktail cabinet, I would definitely do a lot of Googling on how to properly discharge the monitor before touching it. Some of the monitors can hold a charge for years. Always better to be safe than sorry.

Once you have a gameplan on how to discharge it, I'd offer it up on the forums (and also arcadeforums.com) for feedback.

hehe, yeah, I am still above ground. I've been busy lately, and a bit under the weather, so I haven't been posting.

I have the mame machine all but finished. I had the marquee printed up at Kinkos on back-lit film paper. This had to be printed at a different Kinkos, and took over a week to dry. When I finally got it in hand, they had printed it backwards... They re-printed it for me, and a two weeks later I got a decent looking back-lit marquee. I haven't got around to installing it yet. Other than that, the entire thing is painted, and is working well.

I've had company over several times, and we've had massive arcade gaming sessions. Everyone that plays it is surprised that, little old me could make such a machine. I will finish up the fine details, and the marquee and post some finished pics soon.
