Rescuing my HR10-250

I'm struggling to avoid downgrading my HR10-250 to DirecTV's HR20, and the old box is ready for the intensive care unit.

It's unable to play very long without going through a stuttering phase and eventually rebooting.

I have the original 250MB drive plus a WeaKnees 300MB add-on that have been working well for a year.

I spent a weekend last month doing a scan of both drives with Spinrite, which ran successfully at level 2, finding only one bad sector on the original 250 mb drive.

My thought is that the problem is still (one of) the disk drives. And I'm considering strategies for reviving the unit, and maybe even retrieving the data. I'd like a sanity check.

My plan right now is to buy a pair of equivalent disks from WeaKnees and do an image copy from the old disks to the new ones.

Suggestions or alternative strategies?

I'm no expert but I don't think it's the hard drive. I'm experiencing stuttering problems on playback, sometimes unresponsive to remote commands ect. From what I gather it could all be due to the latest software version 6.e I believe. I don't know what to do about it. Especially since Direct tv is going away from the hr10.

I suppose that's a possibility. I'm not finding a lot of people to compare notes with. I need to find more discussions here I think. Thanks for the feedback!

Same issue here but with only the orig. 250MB drive.

Stuttering and then a reboot. Multiples. There were some discussions over at the AVS Tivo forums that this was somehow related to an OTA bug. I'm not so sure of that. Switched all my recordings from OTA HD to the network HD feeds and the problem still exists.

There is also another bug being called 1X FF. Our recordings were playing fine until we used FF so I thought that bug may be the issue. Now the stuttering starts right when you start playback.

My thoughts now is this is probably a bug or bugs in 6.E

Just started a Clear & Delete this morning. I hope this helps at least temporarily.
