i then played my standard copy of king kong which i have watched numerous times on my integra upconverted to 720p. i can honestly report the integra put out a better picture, more depth and color, than the lg. i will have to invest in a hdmi switcher and keep the integra connected for watching standard dvd's upconverted to 720.
i will rent a copy of rush hour 3 todat in blue ray or hd today and see how that plays and report back.

one note though, i'am have the output set on the lg to 720 to match my pro 1130hd. i may not see the full potential of the machine until i move up to a 1080p set which i plan to do in the near future (pdp6010 kuro)

300 is a bad demo disc to try for HD content. It is distressed on purpose. It is highly stylized with grain and processed colors on top of the standard digital effects work. Rent the HD King Kong to compare with your standard def copy. As are far as standard def upconversion I still maintain that the LG is sub-par. I use my HTPC to watch standard DVDs.

300 looks like that on purpose..My brother said it was grainy also..Some directors use filters, which I think are used to cover certain flaws that could be shown..I don't expect much when it comes to up conversion..Its hit or miss really..I try to stick with HD anyhow..

Not sure of if I would use "distressed" as the word but yes... the film is gainy on purpose. That said, 300 on BR looks fantasic on my 130" 2.40 setup from a BH100. I would really like to see how it looks from a Panasonic DMP-BD30.

Just an FYI:

I might bail soon. I have not made up my mind completely but LG is ticking me off. I posted this in another thread but since they won't commit to anything at any time I can't see a reason to stick with it.

If I can get a decent price for my LG I will probably jump on it.

i just sent LG an email off with my complaints, lets see what they have to say. i may be selling mine soon and purchasing two seperate players. got mine for almost cost so i may just hold on to it if they are going to have some firmware updates in the near future.

LOL!!!!

Now that was a good one!!!!

I've got 20 something more days before I can't return mine, so we'll see how it goes! lol.

I don't have a DTS-MA or Dolby TruHD amp at the moment, so codecs have been less an issue for me...but I do have an XBR5 coming, so video output is important.

Well, I was the same way for a while. The 24p thing is what is really getting me at the moment because instead of saying that it is coming or that it will never work they are still telling people it already works when it absolutely doesn't.

The advanced codecs thing did bite me a little bit recently when I rented the anime Paprika. Both the English language track and the Japanese track are in TrueHD with NO standard DD 5.1 tracks to back them up EXCEPT for other languages. So basically I had a disc whose only audio options available to me were 2.0. Not 5.1 in any flavor unless I wanted to watch a mandarin dub or something. THAT ticked me off.

I hear ya. I watched Resident Evil Extinction last night with the same problem. I set my amp to DD+PLII and it broke the channels out to 7.1 but that, I'm sure, was less than ideal. It's too late for me to take mine back so I hope that the firmware updates, if any, come soon.

I have read all the posts on this thread and the BH200 manual, but I am still confused about how to best set up the audio output on my BH200.

I have the HDMI output going to a Sony KDS-60A2000 TV/monitor, which accepts and displays 1080P video signals. I have the digital audio out from the BH200 going to a Denon AVR-4806 Receiver, which only outputs a 1080i video signal, hence the need to run the HDMI to the monitor rather than to the receiver.

The Denon AVR-4806 supports Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo:6, DTS, and HDCD. It also has THX, THX Surround EX, and THX Ultra2 Post Processing Modes along with a bunch of its own digital surround processing modes.

I have a 7-speaker surround setup. My primary viewing is Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and SD DVD movies. What is the best BH200 audio setup for me to use in the Audio setup menu for HDMI, SPDIF, and Sampling Freq.? Also, should I be changing those settings for different audio codecs that are used on different discs, e.g., Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Surround EX, DTS HD, PCM 5.1 Uncompressed (48 kHz/24-bit), etc.?

Thanks guys.

well i got a reply to my email concerning the 24p output and the backlit remote issue. a rep named brian said that the unit will output 24p without any problem if the display is capable.
as far as the remote control backlight issue he says that no where in the manual does it say the remote has a backlight and did'nt know if the factory changed the remote to the current unit supplied wth the player. well the lG site does advertise that the remote is backlit so i don't know whats going on. maybe the next supply of units from the factory will have them but he would not elaborate any further.

I'm confused, hypyke. I read a couple of reviews from some well known magazines that brag of this things upconversion abilities. Is it possible that this was due to your settings? I have the 50 inch led dlp and want to buy one these bad boys. I don't care about the hd audio at this point; I'm just using 2 mainstagehds (plus their sub) in the front and the back. The wife likes the conservative look.
i just read the review from sound and vision magazine on the bh200. they state the machine does not output 24p. now what are the reps from lg gonna come up with for an answere to the question.
Can anyone tell me if the reviews on this thing's upconversion are true? I've read nothing but good reviews about the Marvell QDEO....

This player may not have, at this point, 24p or true hd audio, but it seems to be a heck of a lot better than the BD-UP5000. Just look at their thread. Sheesh. Should I get one?? Data Vision is selling it for only $619....

Look at my post #233, I switched to the 5000. I did compare them for two weeks. SD was great for me on the LG. I saw more noise on the Samsung and have a occasional audio glitch between chapters. Turning on noise reduction on the Sammy did make them very close. Hoping for audio fix in firmware. This is just my opinion, I am no video expert. I switched mainly to gain the 24p. 24p is not even in LG's spec sheet any more.

Okay so here is what I got from LG:

"Dear Jonathan, We are delighted to hear from you as our Valued Customer. We appreciate your interest in this DVD player. According to the information we have on this unit, the 1080p resolution is ONLY available in 24 fps. Standard DVD discs will only upconvert to 1080i. The 1080p resolution requires that the disc be formatted in 1080p, which is generally limited to BluRay and HD-DVD discs. If you have other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience. Neil Electronic Correspondence Executive (ECE) LG Electronics USA 800-243-0000"

Does these even make any sense? Furthermore, did anyone notice in the specs or the manual that it says dvd only goes to 1080i???? Huh?
LG thinks you have a BH100.
Jonathan777

Sounds like they are talking about a BH100, when I had mine it upconverted SD to 1080p60 with no issues. Also played HD at 1080p60.
Hi I recently purchased a LG BH200 player and upgraded the firmware with the latest update ( LG_BH_LV221BH.ROM) from the LG service Canadian site.

The upgrage went off well, unfortunately, after the upgrade the payer does not play the HD and Blu Ray discs it only plays regular DVD's.

Has anybody exprienced this and does anyone have a fix for this.

Please let me know.

Thanks

I had no problems after updating mine. There may have been a corruption. I would delete the first download, redownload it and update it again to see if that doesn't fix it.
Does the LG 200 decode the sound internally and then bitstream to a AVR that isn't HDMI 1.3?

It can either send multi-channel PCM or re-encode to DTS. There is a great table on page 36 of the owner's manual (available for download on LG's website) that shows the output based on player settings and the source type.

i have a sony sf2200 amp and was considering buying this player as a replacement for my samsung1400 but i have a few questions. is it advisable to have the player set to dts for the best quality. and does this player support bluray profile 1.1(i saw the display model at my local BB and it had a usb portso i could add a flash drive but the manual said that its only bluray profile 1) BTW what does this new firmware on their site offer.
Is this player profile 1.1 or 1.0 and if it isn't will it ever be 1.1 via FW?

I'm back. Don't ask me how but I am. I was granted a reprieve I guess. I didn't ask for one. I will try and answer some stuff I missed.

This was addressed in a post that got deleted. Basically no one has ever confirmed, to my knowledge, that they have seen 24p output from this player no matter what the rep said.

Just my opinion. Some others disagree. I don't use it for dvd upconvert at all, after initially testing it, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Can't find much info on your amp but if it does not have HDMI 1.3 then yes the DTS option is your best bet.

The player has all the hardware for profile 1.1 and LG has said in the past there would be a firmware update. (Can't be sure with LG though). All the hardware IS there for profile 2 as well except the local storage which can be augmented by a usb drive so it should be capable of that too.
