I wonder if the Darbee Darblet video processor might have some positive effect on this? Don't know why I'd think it would, but it sure would be nice.

Alright, I've seen lot's of people drinking the Darbee Darblet "kool-aid" lately - and I'm ready to take the plunge for a Thanksgiving weekend present biggrin.gif

However I'd like to hear directly from VW60 owners, hence posting in this thread.
(I've had my VW60 since Dec-2007, 5 years, replace the bulb every 1,300 hrs or so)

Question/feedback request to VW60 owners:
Who has added the Darbee Darblet to your VW60, and do you feel that has given your PJ a new lease on life?
I'd like 2 more years, 2014, before buying a replacement to my VW60, which truly has served me well.

There is this thread here:

And of course the huge thread in the video processors forum:

I'd be tempted to give it a crack - its a bit harder here in AU getting things sent over, but theres been interest in a local forum for a group-buy, so I might register interest there. Although given my belief that the blotchiness is due to the VW60 processing, rather than any issues with the transport of data to the pj, im not sure it would help.

My Black Pearl has been professionally calibrated with the RCP off. Still to this day, I'm not 100% happy with red; it tends to slightly lean more towards a magenta-ish red than a deep red in general. Any suggestions of how to tweak this with the RCP so as to not totally mess up the calibration? Bumping the standard color or hue bars in the menu doesn't seem to be the answer.

In my option rcp should be off.

You can fix the gamut with a video processor if it matters. I just deal with the native gamut.

If course,... I'm still learning. My view for vw60 tuning though has settled on certain modes.

Iris - off
RCP -off
Color -Wide
Gamma - custom using Image Director.
Lamp -High ( this gives 33% more light output! )

I only tune grey scale and gamma now and I leave gamut at defaults. The x and y of the colors can be off (over saturated at 100%, more accurate at 75%) but the Y value of the gamut is near perfect and that's what goes bad when you try RCP.

I lucked on and had a great calibration today with grey delta E around 2 from 20 to 100 and gamma at 2.1 and light output at 12 foot lamberts. Totally satisfied here.

RCP -off
Color -Wide
Gamma - custom using Image Director.
Lamp -High ( this gives 33% more light output! )

That's exactly as my calibrator set up with. When he set Gamma with Image Director it ended up thus:

Input Pre Post
10 % 2.10 1.76
20 % 2.03 1.89
30 % 2.09 1.98
40 % 2.15 1.98
50 % 2.18 2.02
60 % 2.16 2.03
70 % 2.16 2.08
80 % 1.79 2.06
90 % 1.77 2.04

So the RCP isn't the way to go to tweak red, from what you posted. I don't have any calibration equipment (other than Spears-Muncil and other test discs), so I'm not sure what I might do since the user controls don't seem to be the answer. Could I email my calibration results to you and see if you notice anything (PM me email if want to)?

You could send me the calibration report. I like reading stuff like that.

I'm interested in RCP sometimes... I wish I could use it effectively. (Maybe someday.)

You certainly can change the color of red with it. It's like you can change the color of red going for normal to wide color space also.

Being the settings are all simply numerical values, If I were you I would keep my calibrated settings (As user 1 for example or user 3) and tweak another preset.

You can copy the values (I would certainly jot them down anyway and first) onto a text file. So you don't risk losing anything.

I think I've finally reached the conclusion that my issue with red really isn't the projector. It's the friggin' HD picture on my Comcast cable box. The more I pay attention, the more I notice the 49'ers jersey's red from one camera angle and more magenta from a different camera. I guess it's like the old NTSC saying; "never twice the same color"! I have noticed the red concern on other TV shows as well.

Bluray doesn't seem to grab my attention much to the red issue, though sometimes an overly saturated color pallet chosen by whoever would make me think about what I'd noticed with Cable TV.

I believe I'll chalk this one up to misdirected anger!

Need help - I have started using ID and must say I am a bit confused. The ID has two readings when you try and adjust the curve 'Input' / 'output' not sure which one relates to the actual position on the Gama graph in HCFR or to the RGB graph.

Example I want to adjust down the curve for all colors at 20% IRE on the actual Gama Graph in HCFR, would the correct point to adjust in ID be : INPUT = 208 (20%) / OUTPUT = 211 (20%).
I tried it but in HCFR it does not affect the exact 20% IRE position. If you try and zoom in ID it becomes even more difficult to pin point where your adjustment will actually appear on the HCFR Gama Graph / RGB Graph.

Please excuse my ignorance as I am new to ID. Many thanks for your guidance and suggestions.
