Eyes Wide Shut: Has anyone seen it yet?

Well, it comes out Tuesday, has anyone gotten their copy in early or seen any review for it just yet? I know I'm hitting Frys on Tues to pick my copy up on HD DVD!
I just ordered mine from Amazon...I'm really curious, too.

I'll have it around noon on Tues, will try to post some quick thoughts before I head out to work.
Can someone who has it verify that this does indeed contain the "unrated" version?

I think this is one of Kubrick's best movies. Here is a great article that explores the movie as well as Schnitzler's Traumnovelle (the novella that the movie is based on).

The article sheds a LOT of light on the themes of the movie/book. It will greatly enhance your understanding of Eyes Wide Shut.

It is said to have both on there, but as for verification, I still can't find any reviews or anyone who has even received it early yet. I'll verify this tomorrow when I pick it up around noon for you, though, if noone else has.

The "unrated" version (actually it is rated NC-17) is definitely on the disc.
I just got my copy today from Warner. The back shows an R rating, but it shows "Movie Selectable in both Rated and- for the first time in North America- Unrated Versions." under special features

Popped this one in and it doesn't have an option to select rated or unrated. That was BS I don't know what the differences are so couldn't tell you which version it is.

The orgy scene is the ONLY difference in the movie:

I am hoping you just missed the option to choose between the two, I'd hate for Warner to do a recall after all of us have been waiting so long for the NC-17 version.

I too heard that just the unrated version is on the disc. Which is fine by me...

Looking at the photos of the orgy scene in the one link I can say it is definitely the unrated cut. But there is no option to view the rated cut. It just loaded up and played. Oh well

Yeah, though it'd of been kind of funny to show off those fake-ass CGI characters to friends, I could definitely live without having them on the disc at all(if that's the case).

I'm waiting for a review of the movie as well. Is it much better than SD?

I just scanned through it and it looks pretty good. I never saw the SD DVD so I can't compare them. It is really clean, and pretty detailed it just has a fine layer of grain through it.

Wow, DD DVD, really? I hope you paid for shipping, because if not, you're not getting it until mid Nov.

I appreciate your thoughts on it thus far, I was almost at the point of attempting to hit Wal-Mart to see if they put it out after midnight, but there's no way, they barely have but 15 different HD DVD titles on the shelf as it is. Fry's it is, and I'm going early!

It just shipped today, with 2001 and The Shining. ACO and FMJ are apparently due to ship on the 24th.

:-)

I typically get my movies from them in five days, and I never pay for shipping.

Seems like almost noone had EWS today around here, sadly. Even checking online, Wal-Mart and Fry's both still said "Pre order" on their sites. Hopefully it ships for *everyone* tomorrow, so I can hit Fry's and pick it up. Wish WM had it in store, it's only $18.96 there, but with their mediocre HD DVD selection, I doubt they'll get it. I also wish they'd do something like Best Buy, where you could order it online and have them ship it to the store closest to you, so you didn't have to pay for shipping..but no.

Looks like you're not the only one who couldn't find it:

I wonder if this was an intentional mistake on WB's part to get the film in under the R rating(or NC-17 that scares retailers to death), or they really did screw up on the back of the box. Either way, just to finally have the NC-17 version, and in widescreen, in the US is awesome. I will have to attempt to hit Fry's again today and see if they've stocked it yet!

Just be warned, this probably has the same built in level of grain as War of the Worlds.
I'm expecting the reviews to mention it as a flaw even though I remember it being that way in the theater.
Lots of natural lighting.

+1. I have no use for the R rated version.
No one can get the unrated version to work. Appears to be a label error.

no interest on purchase unless UNRATED!

A.Void it is without a doubt the unrated version. The version that is not on there is the rated version. I watched it last night and there is no question about which version it is.

Tried to get it from Fry's again today, they STILL haven't received it. Checked WM.com and they are OUT OF STOCK on it. I want it so bad, but I don't want to pay more than $20 for it, so the leaves out both Best Buy and Circuit City.

Not only natural lighting, but Kubrick shot it using Kodak's fast 500ASA 5298 filmstock- already grainy when properly exposed- and had it pushed a full two-stops by the lab! EYES WIDE SHUT was SWIMMING with grain when projected in 35mm. IMO the heavy grain lent itself to the dreamy nature of the film.

...I take it that it's true that there's no commentary track, huh?
OT and ps., Vincent, I again applaud your nerdiness, I enjoy your contributions to this forum immensely... btw., you still haven't told us what the other Askewers feel about the format war, I'm frankly disappointed that Mews hasn't come out all crazy about it, instead leaving such rantings to the likes of Michael Bay...

Maybe (and this is just a guess) if you have your player's parental level set to R then it shows that version, else the unrated one? Technically possible but I haven't seen the disc myself.

That's a pretty interesting idea, but clearly not the case here as the packaging clearly says selectable unrated and rated versions.
I do like your idea very much though Andy you should pass that one up the chain of command.
