Did you or will you Buy another 360 if you get the Red Rings of Death?

Mine died this weekend. Im thinkin its time to upgrade to the Elite. Then sell the pro when it gets fixed for cheap to a broke friend. What do you guys think on this subject?

Last October, Microsoft sent me two broken refurbs in a row and then lost my return for two months. During that time, I got pissed off and bought a Core system which I thought I'd sell as soon as I got my Premium back. I got my Premium back in January (three months to the day from when I first sent my broken one in). During that time, the Core system died and was returned to Circuit City for another one.

I'm on my 8th and 9th 360s since launch... which is why I keep the Core system in the closet as a spare for the inevitable death of my Premium that doesn't have the newer GPU heatsink. Sad, eh?

I did, twice, but I won't again when this one dies. All the drm on my old downloaded content which won't let me play it when I'm not online, and the month and a half of calls and incompetent service people have let such a sour taste in my mouth Microsoft can take their 360 and shove it. They can come out with a Pro-Super-Made-of-Gold-Elite 360 and I still wouldn't buy in again.

Besides, between my PC and PS3 I'm not exactly missing out on much. And the one big exclusive, Halo 3, was a pretty big disappointment to me. That's just me though.

sell your refurb on ebay... if it's freshly shipped back from MS it's worth a bundle... take a look.

really? hmm

Also, Since Ive went thru MS to get my 1st box fixed, do I still need to give them the serial number and all that when I call this time? Or will they have my info in their system already?

Yeah I just got a new plasma and bought an HDMI switch box, not if, WHEN my premium system dies...I will get an Elite and kinda thinking 60 GB PS3. But Yes I will get an Elite when my system dies.
I WILL buy an elite when mine croaks as well.
Yes...

No offense to you guys, but this is sad. Not you going through so many 360s, but the fact they've died so often within the first two years of the console's existence. That's shoddy manufacturing no matter which way you slice it.

No ****. If the PS3 had a similar games library i would completley give up on the 360.
I'm on my first 360, which I've had for a month or so (got a PS3 a year ago, and decided recently to get the best of both worlds ). Went with an Elite right off the bat. Honestly, though, with all the RRoD stories I've heard, I'm kind of waiting for mine to give up any day now . I'm really enjoying the 360, so if/when it dies I'm sure I'll sent it in for repairs at least once.
I sell complete repaired premium systems through the local classifieds all the time for $275. Just fix it or send it back, sell it and buy a new Elite. No big deal....
I've had mine repaired once. If (when) it dies again, I'll probably get it fixed and buy an Elite so I can have two 360's.

Why is everyone going Elite? The Elites aren't the ones with the new 65nm CPU... They just have the added GPU heatsink that ALL of them come with now. The only one that I know of that definitely has the cooler CPU is the Halo 3 special edition 360.

Mine quit working after 9 months. I play mabye 15 hrs a week...Luckily i purchased it at eb games so I just took it back and got a new one, they offer a one year warr for $40...well worth it in my book to get a NEW system and nopt have to jack with M/S...the new one i got has HDMI, and the guy threw in another FREE one year warr on this one....before my year is up I will go get a new one again..hopefully the elite is all they have at this time next year

Even that hasn't been confirmed yet. All people are going by is *ONE* guy's posts on the official Xbox forums, and all the photos he's taken of the innards just show a reconfigured mobo layout without the troublesome X-clamp of previous models and a couple other revisions. He took a photo of the CPU itself but no one -- and I repeat: no one -- has proven that that CPU is the 65 nm "Falcon." The guy with the Halo 3-branded 360 also used a standard power brick to test the power consumption, and although it showed a lower draw than previous units, he did that test at a *single* point in time and didn't monitor usage for an extended period of gameplay. So even that test doesn't hold water.

Bottomline is that the jury's still out on the new Falcon 360s.

I have a feeling it will probably malfunction at a key moment, such as right after Mass Effect is released.

I went with the Elite for the upgrade HDD and HDMI. I didn't upgrade because of RROD(still have my original Dec 05 360)

when my 360 RRoD a couple of weeks ago, i went out and bought another one to keep me busy until my original one was fixed. I was then going to take my 2nd 360 to my vacation home and keep it there. unfortunately, my 2nd unit died after a week.....

Still have my launch day 360, almost 2 years. I would buy another one, probably an elite if my 360 died.

My premium died which I returned under the warranty program. The day the refurb unit arrived I traded it in on a new Elite unit at Gamestop. I got a helluva deal because the premium was worth $275 store credit there.. I also got $90 for my HDDVD drive which I used very sparingly.

**In my opinion** The Elite is quieter, better looking and more reliable. I'm not sure if it has the newer heatsink design or not. Besides the obvious bonus 100gigs of storage over the old Premium I had.. the DVD upscaling over HDMI is absolutely superb. Most upscaled DVDs movies look very similar to whats being played on CableHD. (I can count the hairs on a persons face.. the grass on the field.. etc etc..)

We have 2 360's in the house now and if either of them dies I would buy a new premium with HDMI, probably the same day. I would then keep the refurb/returned one for a backup...

I have to say.. for a system that DEFINITELY has it share of reliability problems.. its pretty amazing to see people this loyal to purchase it again should it fail. As I said in another threads.. that must really speak for the positive **SOFTWARE** experience people are enjoying on the 360.

Absolutely. Now if they can just support the positive software experience with a reliable hardware experience, Sony might have even more to worry about than they already do.

Oh... no. It makes me very very sad just to think of such a cruel and inhumane situation.

Its weird when you read how someone has never had any problems and then another person is on like their tenth unit. I just bought an elite after I got my hdtv. I had a premium from April 06 and never had any major problems other than the dirty disk error randomly. I wanted the hdmi and the bigger hard drive so I upgraded. My elite is a whole lot quieter.
Just got my first 360 last week. HDMI premium system. Hopefully it won't get the RRoD, but if it does I'll just send it into MS (assuming it's within 3 years).
i have 2 more years, but i will definately get another one. another elite
post #29 of 62
I'm having my fourth 360 since launch in Europe.
All in all I'm satisfied with the service Microsoft is giving.
Have had replacements within the week.
All in all they should be aware of this problem and not rush out the 720

But if would buy today it would be def. be an Elite, just for the blacks and HDMI and 120gig, cause 20 is way to low.

I have had my Elite for a week and yesterday it locked up 3 times playing Halo 3. I realize the disc drive when you touch the chrome is running hot and when you pull the game disc out it is hot too. I reminds me of a CD or DVD in dash in a car when you have the heater on. Everything else works fine and realize it was only 2 hours the machine was on. I think I am going to take it back and get the Halo Edition 360. I still have my launch 360 and never had the problems like this.
