Onkyo DV-CP704

Hello Everyone,

I desperately need help to fix this issue. I recently purchase the Vizio 47" HDTV 1080p from Costco and the HTIB - Onkyo HT-S907 from Fry's Electronic. I'm having problem getting them to work properly.

The problem is hooking everything according to the manual; the image quality turned out to be very bad. The image would smear all the solid colors (yellow, red, blue) over the soft colors and it's very blotchy. I hooked the DVD player (Onkyo DV-CP704) to the Receiver (TX-SR604) then to the HDTV with HDMI cables. I had done all the setting in the TV, the Receiver, and the DVD player accordingly. Anybody has any idea what went wrong?

When I hooked the DVD player directly to the HDTV with the HDMI cable, everything works good except that I lose the digital sound to the Receiver. What could be wrong with the Receiver?

Try swapping your two HDMI csables to see if it is any different, and try the DVD player straight to the TV with one HDMI cable, then the other, to look for a problem.

You asked your question in the HD DVD Players forum, so it should get moved to another location-either LCD Flat Panels or standard DVD Players probably.

no offense, but your first problem was buying a vizio. They have horrible color compared to the rest. They have horrible motion problems that have yet to be resolved.

how was the dvd player connected to the reciever??
maybe reciever can only passthrough certain resolution i.e 720p, 1080i

The first thing I did was cable swap and the problem was not there. Next, I connected the DVD directly to the TV, the image was perfect but I lose the digital sound to the reciever. Well, I'd solved the problem by using the optical cable from the DVD to the reciever.

I'd been searching on the forum about the HTIB Onkyo HT-S907, Onkyo TX-SR604 and the Onkyo DV-CP704, it seems like several people have had the same problem I did. Some had suggested to recalibrate TV but the problem is not there. I think it is the HDMI passing through the reciever is the problem.
