OMG!!! called ABT and told them the BB price and they beat it. Not sure what to think but the guy said they'll get it in 2 weeks [onkyo 905? anyone?] and they'll ship it right out.

You're right. I just placed my order with them. 10% down, and they're expecting the end of Nov. Great price and no shipping/tax, and 30 days price protection guarantee. I'll take that.

Thanks, acidrock, good suggestion. Now...let the waiting begin....

I think BB may have gotten too many preorders and probably won't be able to fulfill all those preorders since they don't know when or how many units of UP5000 they will receive. It's smart that they took the preorder off their site.

I also wouldn't be surprised that those of you have preordered will receive an email stating that you won't get one or you'll continue to have a false sense of hope of getting one.

It's looking more and more towards the end of year for Xmas time!

I'm afraid this machine will be so popular (regardless of price) that people won't get their hands on one until Feb-March 2008! Shoot, if people are willing to spend $599 on an iPhone, $799 for a duo player is a given!

Damn, I want one now!!

Same here, just orderd it from ABT, $799, no tax, free shipping, 10% down... He said he JUST took 3 orders... Told me Nov 28 is the ship date.
I just pre-ordered this with ABT.com as well. Just so you all know, because BestBuy does not have the Samsung on their website anymore, they are not very likely to match the $799 price. I had the woman who helped me look up the prices of other people who had pre-ordered it today, and she noticed most/all were $799, so she said she would honor that for me, but she said it should not be expected for anyone else who calls. Just wanted to forewarn everyone.

For the extra $20, I'll take ABT. Reliable and professional. Two things Onsale is not.
onsale price is now 829.99 plus $16 for shipping

If this machine does everything it promises and actually sells at 799, then this machine is a GOD!! This thing has full audio support, (although I still can't tell if it will bitstream DTSHD-MA or decode it) and seems to fully support the interactivity of HDDVD and will be 1.1 compliant via firmware when discs are made with 1.1. Seems like a killer way to go neutral, blu or red!! Awesome, if it doesn't come with a 1000 bugs at launch.

No, shouldn't be. I approved (and received an invoice for) a 10% deposit. Worth it to be at the front of the line, IMHO.
I think the whole amount was charged, besides getting $10 to $800 back from them is the same headache...or am I being niave? my balance due is $0.00
post #48 of 100
My question was directed towards Vampyro!

Did whomever you preorderd from charged the entire $799 on your credit card today? That's what it sounded like by how you've written in your post!?

I allow them to charge $100 instead just only the 10%. The salesperson actually asked for $150 down today, I declined and said how about $100 instead? Boom, done!

They got your money whats the difference how much it is?

It's just weird that so many of us preordered it and were only required to place either 10% down or $100 down in my case. All of the sudden, here you come and said, they charged me $799 TODAY!

It's question whether you volunteered or they forced you? The one difference is that most of us still has $600 in our pockets today and you don't while we all still have two months left until we actually sees a BD-UP5000! That's the difference!
Worst case scenario is we both get our money back, and buy the machine somewhere else, I have more than $800 you know
post #52 of 100
wait, why are they asking for ANYTHING down? i preordered my 905 from ABT at $1490 and they didn't get a penny until I got it.

YOU DO??!!

I realize that, like I said, I was surprised to see, 10%, 10%, 10%, then boom, they charged $799 today! No biggy, let us all dream about our new toy tonight and weeks to come.
I just called them and changed it to $150 down hehe, anyway it will still be a headache down the road if we all dont get the machine from ABT

Found this over at engadget:

Samsung's first dual format player was supposed to hit the streets in October, but was delayed. Today, Samsung let us know that it'll be shipping from their factories in October and expects it to hit retailers shelves in December. It's also been confirmed that the BD-UP5000 will be Profile 1.1 "ready", and there are plans to release a firmware update in January of 2008 that will make profile 1.1 a reality. It's not surprising that the BDA has provided this loop-hole when we consider that the first Profile 1.1 title isn't expected till next year.

looks like it is profile 1.1!!!!

Pardon my skepticism, but it looks more to me like while the player has the hardware to be Profile 1.1 (which we've known since the announcement of the inclusion of the Broadcom 7440 SoC), it might be released as a Profile 1.0 player with some ethereal vaporware promised for a potential January 2008 release if they get all the bugs worked out. If the firmware was available now they would release it already loaded in the player.

I understand the skepticism, but Samsung has delivered on the 1400, providing the DTS-MA output that was promised. What makes you think they won't deliver on the 5000? Has Samsung not delivered on product promises in their BD players?

I think many people are still miffed over the previous update problems that have happened previously with Samsung. In this case though since it has the hardware I dont see this as being an issue. Since we are not likely to see a movie with 1.1 until January anyways I would rather wait and get the bugs out of the software then have it "now" and find out later that "opps" its buggy. While I am sure there will need to be more updates in the future, at least they are being up front about it here and stating this semi officially.

Nothing in particular-and certainly no "insider" information. But IMHO if it was easy to create a Profile 1.1 player, it would have already been done. The Broadcom 7440 SoC (system-on-a-chip) processor in the Samsung was announced almost a year ago, and I assume that the Blu-ray standards for the software are set, so Samsung has already had awhile to work out the bugs-yet the necessary firmware is apparently still delayed until next year? CE manufacturers announce their intentions all of the time, and then change their plans based on the current realities. Do you expect to see the promised BDP2400 from Samsung anytime soon?

I'm just more of a believe-it-when-it-happens kind of guy. I have great hopes for the BD-UP5000, it sounds like a super player- that's why I'm followimg the threads. Sorry to come across as negative, but it seems a little premature to announce Profile 1.1 with exclamation marks, IMHO.

Cheers,

kelpie

Is this a rhetorical question? The 2400 was cancelled (and officially so) so that Samsung could concentrate on the 5000 and provide the increased storage size and secondary decoders necessary for 1.1 potential, at least according to the news on the net.

As for your concerns, I do understand, but the BD spec must be a tad difficult, otherwise EVERYONE would have 1.1 players now, no? Other than LG's newest, no one even offers that (outside of the PS3) right? One of the problems with releasing Blu a bit before she was ready.
