Those technically are not "sku" number, rather walmart item numbers. Each item(upc) at walmart has a unique 5 digit item number with the department number prepended to create a 6 or 7 digit item number. All items in electroncis start with "5" since it is department 5.

Go to their site....do a search (entire site) for "hd-dvd" or "hd dvd"....take a look at what the first item is that pops up as a match.

Go to crutchfield and type in Blu Ray...same type of thing happens. 1 BD player and about 3 HD DVD players. The description probably mentions HD and then DVD playback, thus the reason it shows up in the search.

After reading about this last week I went to 4 walmarts around my house and could not find any A2's nor did the people working there have a clue. I already have a A2 that works great so I thought at this price I would put one in the bedroom.

Any idea when these will start hitting Wal-Mart shelves?

Give it time. This is not even an official news. So don't expect these to just show up in a few days. This could even show up at our door (well back door.. ) end of this month or even mid November. Not too many Mohaimens are working for Walmart and even then, I'm just part time. haha
Soon as they start showing up, I'll let you all know and also, give you results each week on how they are selling.

Good man. I wouldn't be surprised if they show up just in time for Black Friday.

There will probably be a few more opportunities between now and Christmas to get one. I just have to be patience.

The local associate manager in the electronics department said that for my store, the PS3 would be the only Blu-ray player this year. I mentioned that they sold HD DVD's but didn't sell any players (they quit carrying the 360 addon). He said the store would have HD DVD players in November (didn't say what kind).

So November is when I would expect most Wal-Marts to get them, as my local store only started carrying HD DVD's about a month ago, and they just got a hi-def endcap last Thursday. My store is definately following, not leading. This makes sense if there is a BF special. Have them regularly priced in the store for a few weeks, then offer a special price on Nov. 23. I would expect most stores to have the A2 by Nov 9.

Should this not be in the rumor thread?

This is big. If Wal Mart is bringing these in at $198 "list" I wonder what they will be selling for after Thanksgiving?

This isn't a rumor, it's a fact.

I still don't understand... Why the A2 and not the A3? Is it so they can price the A2 cheaper while keeping the A3 priced higher... even though they are functionally basically identical?

Personally my suspicion is that they made this deal for the A2 some time ago and have been dedicating production for Wal Mart for at least the last month or so. Walmart might also feel more comfortable selling the A2 as it's been out for a year, has more refined firmware and has a "proven" track record with consumers.

Wal Mart might have placed such a large order that they needed to dedicate A2 production to them some time ago, and now A3 is going into the channel for everyone else.

One store has reported about 60 decks on order. There are over 1000 Walmarts in the US, plus more in Canada. Assuming other stores are ordering around 60 decks, that's 60K decks going to Wal Mart stores as an initial order. With likely additional shipments going out in November/December.

That's a fair amount of production.

Well, my local Wal-Mart in Toronto still had the RCA player on sale when I checked a couple weeks ago... and IIRC it was $499.

Or maybe it was $399 but either way, it's time to get with the program...
I am curious to how many will actually make it to the sales floor. 30 shipping. As it stands i would think MohaimenK might be picking one up, which will leave 29. hehehe.

MohaimenK how many employees at your store do you think would want one?

Rover, LOL it's wayyyyy past the rumor mill my friend

Bugs, I dont' know if all stores will get $60. Our Walmart is actually the largest and has the most sales in our region from what I've been told and it's not even a super walmart so we just might be getting more than usual?

Cadbury, of course, if I do buy one, it'll be cheaper for me
Though, I'm not sure if I will buy one yet because I do have an A2 and also A30. But I do have 5 TVs so I might just end up getting one in each room

The September sales in western Canada were incredible. I picked up my HD-A2 for $189.99 from BestBuy. There's no reason why a huge company like Wal-Mart can't sell these players at a similar price. My A2 was brand new in a sealed box and not some beat up floor model either. It also included 3 free HD DVD movies in the box.

Heh. Well, I got ya beat... sorta. Future Shop had the $199.99 sale which I took advantage of. However, now they're advertising a free copy of Transformers with every HD DVD and DVD player over $100. I brought my bill back and they deducted $32.99 from the price and sold me Transformers for $32.99. So now my receipt states $167 for the HD-A2.

Plus the 5 free movies will be coming too.

Don't forget to add his 5 free movies either

Ill tell ya what is missing from the shot he took. Directly to the right of the price it is supposed to show the margin of the item. Right now at that price the HDA2 is <26%>, <> means its a negative number.

WM WOULD not outright sell this at that big a loss. WM is known for taking a loss on certain items but most of the time they are getting something in return from a vendor to make up for the loss.

In the other thread I also mention 3 different item numbers:

HDA2
HDA2-W
HDA2-C

Each one has a different negative margin on them. Read the other thread for my opinion on what I believe is happening.

You said it, not me, but still that is wrong information. But what is your thread, I'd like to read it.

Its not a big secret about margins. If you do enough research on the web you can find profit margins for pretty much anything. BTW, that number is correct for one of the players. I just cant remember which one since they are all different but all negative.

Here is the other thread:

Mods, can we just get both of these threads combined into one giant thread?

Well, now we can speculate on the Black Friday special!

Wally World offers A2 with Transformers for $149!

I agree, this is what I am anticipating too, big bold "HD DVD player with Transformers" in their black friday ad.

Even if it was at $179 it should sell quite a few units.

My opinion................Shrek 3 with HDA2 for $149.

My "way out there" prediction, WM cuts a deal with Dreamworks and gets HD DVD version of Over the Hedge exclusive till January, bundles it on BF with Shrek 3 and HDA2 for $149.

The HD-A2C is the Costco player. Why would Wal-Mart have this in their system? What is the UPC# that goes with the HD-A2C in Wal-Marts system?
