HK recievers

I purchased a cheap HTiB this summer, but after the initial thrill of 5.1 surround wore off, I was left wanting alot more. After doing some research, I feel I'm at the point to put together a BUDGET system. I'm not a picky audiophile, I just want something that's good enough. So the first place I started was the reciever.

Note: this setup is for a 12x13 bedroom with alot of furniture, so I'm not exactly in need of tons of wattage. Plus, one wall is shared with the living room, so I can't be too obnoxious, just loud enough to fill my space.

(Sorry, I tried to post the link, but I don't have enough posts...)

This is what I initially looked at because of the low price and low wattage. I'm aiming for something around 150 watts. (My friend has the HK 300 watts RMS reciever, and it's actually more than I need). I also assumed that the reciever I was looking at would be 150 watts peak power, and probaly only 75 on average, is this right? If so, will I be staisfied, assuming I don't need window shaking, ear splitting sound, or do I need to bite the built and take the next step up?

Thanks for any help.

Then your not an audiophile.

The prerequisite of being an audiophile on this fourm is Bose Bashing and the ability to argue snake oil remedies. It actually has nothing to do with audio.

In conjunction with a powered sub, that should be plenty of power for a 12 x 13 room.

You should visit some of your local big box A/V stores and get a feel for what you like and will fit in your budget.

I was trying to say I'm not an audiophile at all, but if all I have to do is Bose bash, I guess I'm half way there .

I guessed that that wattage would be sufficient, but I think I will go to some stores and test stuff out, I'm not a fan of buying things online without using it in person.

What kind of HTiB did you get? If it's an Onkyo, Yamaha or similar, those manufacturers typically supply decent entry-level receivers with their product.

Perhaps you could start with better speakers and a good subwoofer then get a new amp afterwards. That way, at least you'd get some additional mileage from your recent purchase.

I considered that idea, but I got a really cheap HTiB with one of those all in one DVD player-Recievers. I doesn't even measure volume in decibels, and has almost no configuration options, so I've had to rule that idea out.
