As sad as it is, achievements are the difference maker for me. Visually people are crazy if they think there is going to be a big difference.....Im used to the 360 controller for FPS too.....

Here's how I would do it (if you do have both systems)

If you are big into multiplayer: Pick the system on which you have the most friends to play COD4 with

If you just want to play single player: Rent both and pick the "best".

If you do happen to have both and just play single player, why not make sure you have whichever one looks better (assuming that one even does)? Personally I'd rather play with my friends on the version with a few more jaggy edges than play by myself on another

I'm really hoping to get some commentary from the owners of the PS3 version of COD4. Adams?

Here is a link to another message board discussion abotu the game, and it shows some awesome pics of the 360 version of the game. Could one of the PS3 owners here give us a general impression of the shots, and how they compare to the PS3 version? Do any of the effects look better in these pics than they did on the PS3 version? Wading through the swamp water?

I'm just really wanting to make sure I get the right version tonight, and I'm not quite sure yet which one is best. I am leaning towards the PS3 though.

Thanks.

I hope your not saying the ps3 has some jaggie edges

Dude one version isnt going to look that much different, if ANY different than other. Well not different enough to tell without having them playing side by side for a comparison. The developer has already stated this.

Lets concentrate on keeping this topic about the fun to be had.. instead of the entirely too old "this looks better than that" analysis.

As adam said.. let your friend list determine which version to get. If you have more friends on PSN.. get the PS3 version. If you have more on Live.. get the 360 version. Because the multiplayer is where this game really shows. The single player you can finish in a day.

Nuff said!

Who decided that certain people are gonna be the police about what exactly gets discussed in a thread like this?

I own both systems, and I don't think there is anything wrong with me wanting the best version of the game possible for my $60 price tag. I've heard a million developers tell people that their game is the same on bother consoles, and 95% of the time it's not true. For those who are picky about their visuals, there are differences and most of the time they're quite noticable. So, I don't really care what the developer is telling everyone. There will be differences, and I'm sure I'll end up choosing one based on that.

To those who are playing it already, how's the camera? COD 3 made me ill. Resistance was a piece of cake. The Darkness made me ill, too. How does COD4 compare? All the commercials so far make me sick because IW's marketing team seems to think unstable cameras and quick cuts are the best way to showcase the game...LOL.

Okay for those that have PS3 and XBOX360 - just sign up for a gamefly trial and get both. I know I trust my eyes and opinion, but does that mean we look for the same things in graphics? Not necessarily. And we both probably have different taste/expectations from the next person. Please don't tell me you're going to listen to either side's fanboys - unless there are side by side screen shots taken by the same person on both systems, I'm not going to listen to what anyone says.

I'm just going to enjoy my game =D 2nd Lieutenant baby!

Insantpop: I've been perfectly fine with the camera, although I haven't played any of the games you mentioned above. To me it's just like the Counterstike camera on my PC back in the day... ahhh good times.

Reviews are starting to come in. This one is a french one (Jeuxvideo). They mention the short game time on normal (5 hours).

Thanks, Adams. I watched a bit more of the gameplay video over at GT and it looked alright. The problem, I think, is that some people prefer to move around at a faster pace (i.e., IGN and others) where the movement seems spastic if you're not the one in control. The "Bog" video and "Last Stand" video over at GT are far better representations of the actual camera, imo.

I played CoD3 on the 360, and while the multiplayer was pretty bad, the sp was still fun imo.

I know I'll definitely be picking it up from there.

Thanks, thats a great tip. I'm gonna try and snag this deal tomorrow.

Well excuse me Mr. Picky-about-my-visuals.

Lighten up man. Its just a game. Trying having some fun with it first, before you go analyzing pixels.

Dah! I couldn't find it in stores today even though Bestbuy and Futureshop's websites listed a Nov 5 arrival date.

Do games traditionally come out on Tuesday's like DVD's do?

Traditionally they do, but sometimes due to shipping errors it could be anyday of the week. Take for instance Rainbow Six Vegas, it was due in on a Tuesday but distribution got messed up and it came in on a friday.

IGN review

9.0 Presentation
If this is war, consider me a future draft-dodger.
10 Graphics
From top to bottom, one of the best-looking console games around.
9.5 Sound
The explosions will shake you; the constant sounds of gunfire will put you on edge. The end song is an added bonus and properly immortalizes the unfortunate phrase, "Go deep and hard."
9.5 Gameplay
An excellent shooter that is as intense an experience as you can find in gaming. The multiplayer is also top-notch.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
The single-player experience is brief, but there are many other things that will hold your attention once the campaign is complete.
9.4
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
IGN - 9.5
GameTrailers - 9.4

Here are my guesses for what Gamespot is going to complain about...

- game has too many options and different gameplay mechanics (shooting on the floor, shooting from a plane, shooting from the top of a building, etc.) that will confuse gamers
- the frame rate is so high that it makes Aaron Thomas dizzy...

:P

Does PS3 version of COD4 support 1080 resolution?

yes, though it is upscaled. you must uncheck 1080i and 720p in order to force the upscale.
eh i'd rather not force an upscale and just run the game at the resolution it was meant to run at.

by this game's atmosphere is absolutely incredible. i'm on the 'black hawk down' level right now, i can't get enough.
The SP sounds way too short for my tastes. I am all about the SP as I don't put in a lot of hours gaming, and when I do I really enjoy a great SP experience at my own pace. MP gets frustrating because the folks online are usually more dedicated than me.

Too bad it's not 20 plus hours in SP.
I watched the whole Gametrailers review and even though it was posted in the PS3 section and it was actually for 360 version.
