There's no system where you can choose which ranked (or unranked) game you want to enter. There's no option where you can choose to play against other people not in your party in custom games.

Basically, the online interface falls short of resistance in almost every way.

This games visuals are definitely overrated. Instead of trying for 60fps (which seems like only 50% of the time anyways) IW should have tried for 30fps constant and used more complex geometry or shader effects.

I completely disagree. This game is far too fast paced for anything less than 60fps.

Yes, the graphics aren't 100% top notch in every aspect, but I can't put my finger on any one thing that doesn't look awesome. But the gameplay is so awesome that anything less than 60fps would have neutered it.

And what 600p resolution does the PS3 SDK allow?

I'm kind of in agreement here. You can certainly tell where they sacrificed to hit their 60fps target. I don't think this game would run nearly as well at 30 and I have yet to see any slowdown. The framerate is spectacular, but the graphics leave a bit to be desired in some areas. Poorly rendered vending machines and textures that fall apart as soon as you get close to them kind of ruins the atmosphere a little bit, but I'm so busy kicking A online that I don't take too much time to notice.

The one thing that has bothered me a bit in the single player campaign is the AI of your squad-mates. Too many times I've had guys walk right in front of me while I'm taking down an enemy only so they can get shot and have to start the mission over because "Friendly Fire Will Not Be Tolerated." The enemy AI seems pretty good, though I've seen a couple of looping animations happen which seemed way out of place (the sniping mission when guys are coming out of helicopters toward the end, I saw a loop of two guys running back and forth to the same spot like they were doing some sort of Presidential Fitness drill).

I also don't like how your squad always tells you to proceed before things are clear and you get popped by a bad guy. I've had this happen on several occassions. It also seems like sometimes they just don't feel like helping you. When a guy is supposed to have your back (you can clearly tell because he is looking behind you) too often they just let dudes walk right by. I've been attacked by flanking and rear positions several times because even though I've tried to take up a strategic position, my squad has decided not to fulfill their end of the bargain. When that's the case, you're left trying missions over and over again until you memorize the flow of the bad guys coming in and know where to look and in what order since your teammates don't care to help. I thought I was supposed to be the rookie on these squads!

Those things aside, I love the multiplayer of this game. The leveling up online and working toward a purpose other than unlocking skins is fantastic. I don't even care what my stats are, I just want to keep unlocking stuff. The pace is great and the action is always intense.

Overall:

Graphics 8: There are just too many things that fall apart in certain areas that pull you out of the moment. Most of the game looks fantastic but when you're guarding a tank and you're sitting right behind it and you can't even make out what shape it is anymore, that stinks.

Single Player: 7.5: The squad AI is so bad sometimes that it makes the game frustrating rather than fun.

Multiplayer: 9.0: The gameplay itself rules but the lack of features to communicate with friends is horrible. Setting up a game with your clanmates shouldn't be this hard.

^^ My thoughts exactly.

Overated compared to what? Real life? This is by far the best looking FPS i've ever played. Looks simply amazing to me in 1080p.

Maybe it has something to do with me playing more than a foot away.

Locking the game at 30fps to milk out something you have no f'n time to stare at anyway is pretty ridiculous.

60FPS > Unnecessary Eye Candy.

Priority 1 for IW should be a patch to fix the horrible lobby system.

Best FPS ever IMHO.

I agree!
And to second what Cyquatch said, this games needs to be at 60. It moves way to fast for 30. I'm more concerned about who's around the corner looking to kill me than I am about how pretty the rest of the game looks.
And as said, by far the best looking FPS I've ever played. It's visually stunning. If anyone has anything negative to say about how the game looks, you have way to much time on your hands and you should just enjoy playing the best looking/playing game on the PS3.

I never said it looked bad and I totally agree that 60 fps > eye candy, but there are elements that you can notice where they skimped. Not that it truly bothers me as I said because I'm too busy trying to survive. It is the best FPS I have ever played and I will be playing it for a long time! It's just nice to know that there is someplace for Call of Duty 5 to go...
Yep, COD5 you'll actually be able to play online with people.

Does anyone know what the rewards are for beating the entire game on veteran is? Just curious as I think this would take some doing..

BTW, the cluster bomb cheat is sweet - the silent film/charlie chaplin mode is pretty funny, but not very player friendly..
Greatest game ever on PS3.....way better than 360 version.

How do you get cluster bomb cheat and chaplin mode?
What happens when you beat it on hard? Anything? I just finished the game twice on Recommended setting... Will have to do it again.
The only thing visually is that some of the textures are not great up close. But besides that the geometry, charcter models, environments, action, Frame rate, and effects are amazing.

The animation of the enemies is stunning as well.

9.5/10 for me.
Throughout the game there are laptops sitting around that are "enemy intelligence" - (it will prompt you to pick it up if you are standing in front of one). Depending on how many you find, you unlock SP "cheats", so far out of the ones I've unlocked the cluster bomb is the only functional one, the others are visual effects.

Intel Pieces
To unlock cheats you'll need to locate Intel Pieces strewn throughout the game. Their are 30 to collect, and the more of them you collect, the more cheats will be unlocked. Here is a list of cheats, what the cheats do and how many Intel Pieces are needed to unlock each one.

2 - "CoD Noir" Play the game in black and white.
4 - "Photo-Negative" Game colors are inverted.
6 - "Super Contrast" Game's contrast increases.
8 - "Ragtime Warfare" Play the game like an old silent movie.
10 - "Cluster Bombs" One frag grenade has five explosions.
15 - "A Bad Year" Enemies explode into tires when shot.
20 - "Slow-Mo Ability" Game plays at 40% normal speed.
30 - "Infinite Ammo" Unlimited ammo.

Infinite Ammo + Slow-mo + bad year + cluster bombs is pretty fun. Unlimited grenade launcher and cluster bombs make the game pretty easy.

Infinity Ward Update on PS3 Call of Duty 4 Matchmaking

Published: 28 minutes ago | News | PlayStation 3 Info Report

9 Infinity Ward has posted the following update on their official forums.

"Wanted to keep you informed with the information we're getting back from the server team. They have made some updates which they feel should resolve the connection problems. If you are still experiencing issues, please provide us with as much important network information as you can, for example:

Your ISP
What's your Router
NAT level
etc.

As much info as you can provide, so we make sure everyone is taken care of.

As always, please let us know if you are still experiencing problems so we can keep the server team on it for you.

A patch isn't required, this issue is unrelated to the game's code. It's a Networking issue with the servers being slammed by the amount of people playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The only real issue is that the servers we're getting hit really hard, especially with the launch in Europe doubling that traffic, just something that requires optimizing on the server side and we've been working with the PSN COD4 Server team from the moment it started having issues assisting any way we can to help them get them up to speed faster.

Thanks for all the patience everyone, and this will not be a long term problem and as I said is merely server downtime issues."

I came here to ask if anyone else has problems actually getting into a game online, but I see that this seems to be common right now. Too bad, I actually got into a team deathmatch this morning and had some fun before I had to go to bed.

Singleplayer is fantastic!

This game is frustrating me to no end! I'm stuck at the very end of the "Ghillied Up" mission, trying to hold off the riff-raff until the choppers arrive and save the gimp. I'm playing at the highest difficulty, which I'm sure is adding to the problem, but the levels before this have been do-able, despite being tough. This last part seems impossible!! I've tried it a dozen times now.

Apparently every one of these Eastern bloc soldiers has a Manning-esque arm because they can just lob a grenade perfectly into your hiding spot. So very frustrating. Coupled with not being able to access multiplayer, I'm about ready to turn this disc into a drink coaster!! Arrrggghhhh

I got the game at CC with the COD 3 & 4 deal. The game is amazing so far. The MP features are limited, but the game-play is awesome. I think this is the Counter-Strike for consoles. I am just mad with the online problem "D/L game settings." I didn't try it today, but I will tomorrow.

I'm close to restarting the game on normal. I'm stuck at a part right now that I've replayed about 25 times. I've never had this much of a problem on any fps before.

It's the number one rated PS3 game on metacritic right now, (rated 95 out of 100) and rightly so. This game take a huge leap forward compared to previous CoD games. Far and away the best first person shooter I've ever played. I don't see how anyone can be negative on it. If this isn't the best FPS out there, what is?

Wolfenstein 3D, of course.

its true, confirmed by Quaz51 at beyond3d (the one who discovered Halo 3 runs at 1138x640). there are many PS3 games that run at odd resolutions and my guess is they're either being scaled by software scaling or through RSX (the GPU). there are a small handful of games that use the horizontal scaling method (GT5, GT:HD, Transformers for example). the 360 doesn't actually have a scaler chip either (previously thought it had a chip called "Ana' that did the scaling) but the 360 actually scales with the GPU (Xenos).

I think there is only 360 achievements for beating it on Veteran and nothing extra for the PS3. I'm playing through it now on Veteran and man is it tough. As stated above the "Intel" is the only thing special I can see as far as unlocking things, at least according to the strategy guide.

Anyone know what the "Special Luv" is yet for the PS3 version that the IW devs spoke of?
