Battalion Wars 2

Just bought this yesterday at the Nintendo World Store. Awesome! Haven't played it a ton yet, but I'm sitting at work itching to go home and play. Controls are great and it looks real nice, too. I never played the first one on GC, so it's taking some getting used to. It can get quite busy and confusing on screen - especially telling the difference between allies and enemies.

The online part has great promise! It gives the option to play against a friend (with friend codes) or anyone! I don't have any friends with this game, yet, but the play with anyone seems to work really well. I was only able to connect to a couple games last night, but I attribute that to very few people have the game already.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I have really been looking forward to this game since it was announced last year. I'm not sure if I'll pick it up however. I was hoping for a split screen 2 player mode but haven't heard anybody mention that as a possiblity. Did you notice if this was an option? Also, I see that there is a skirmish mode but is that only available on the online options? I would rather play skirmish against CPU AI.

I look forward to hearing more of your impressions.

Is this the big brother of Advance Wars for the DS? Is it a similar turn based game, or more of a RTS? Looks cool, but it is always hard to tell what a Wii game is like just from screenshots.

Of course I'm still trying to track down a Wii. Nintendo needs to open an online store and let us get in a line.

Yeah, it is the console version of Advanced Wars. It is not turn based and it not a true RTS either. You are able to control any individual unit and can also command other units at the same time.

Good luck on finding a Wii....I read somewhere that amazon.com will have them on Wed morning.

I think I'm going to buy this one today. Never played any of the others in the series, but it sounds cool.

No splitscreen or local multiplayer. Only offline option is the single player story mode, as far as I can tell. Online options (against friend or 'anyone') are skirmish, co-op or one where one person defends and the other tries to attack a base (don't recall the name).

Hmmmmm....thanks for the info. I'll hold off a bit until the reviews start coming in.

This title is mostly sold out in my area. I ended up ordering one for pickup online that I'm going to get later tonight. The point being that if you're thinking about getting this one soon you might want to try to snag a copy ASAP.

Edit: Looks like the stores I thought were sold out just didn't have it in yet, now they do so it might not be selling as quickly as I first thought.

Bwii got a solid 8.0 from IGN. Besides the online modes, nothing much new has been added. I'll probably just snag an original GC version for 10 bucks since I have never played the original. I was really hoping for an offline skirmish mode...

This game seems okay, but I kind of wish I had gone for Zack and Wiki instead now. Oh well, after I beat this one I'll wait for a decent trade in deal. Not an awful game or anything, it's just not my type of game I guess.

Anyone know what the unlockables are when you complete missions with a good grade?
I rented this, did the first campaign mission (and the prologue) and one online skirmish that I won. I guess its probably because I'm new at it, but there seemed to be no strategy on either side, just very chaotic.

It's very fun, cutscenes are very well done so far, etc. My biggest concern is that the aiming reticule doesn't stand out nearly enough from the action.

i finally rented this and its great, just the aiming thing needs to be fixed and they need offline co-op
