This is my first time posting... I hope it goes to the right spot...
I am considering buying a Sony HDR-SR7 but don't know whether it will do what I want or not... can someone who owns this camera help me out please? I am wondering if the quality is so good that it will allow you to capture still shots "directly" from the video while editing (without taking the still snapshots).
You are probably wondering why I want to do this when I can just take the still shots and save it to the card. The reason is that I love taking pictures TOO much, especially of the grandbabies... family members get very irritated when I snap too many pictures
They don't seem to mind, though, if the camcorder is running in the background, so I usually just let the camcorder run, edit the video later, and capture all the still shots I want this way. However, the quality is very bad... like 1 or 2 megapixels! I'm using a 13 year old sharp camcorder that uses 8mm tapes, which I edit on my computer with Pinnacle 9.3 software on my laptop. This software allows me to capture snapshots from any frame in the video, and save it as a still shot.
Will the quality of the Sony HDR-SR7 be significantly better if I capture snapshots using this method? The ad says that it is able to "simultaneously capture video and 4.6-megapixel still images while recording" but, what is the quality like if I want to save still shots from the video... is it as good?
Has anyone ever tried this? Are the pictures decent quality? I don't expect them to be great, but I would be VERY happy with 3 megapixel quality.
If anyone has tried this, would you send me a link to the picture please?
I would love to see how the quality compares before buying the camera.
It would be especially great to see still shots taking using all three ways.
1. still shot taken directly from video while editing.
2. still shot taken with camera while recording a video (4.6 megapixel).
3. still shot taken with camera in camera mode (6.1 megapixel).
